Beautifully Restored 17th Century Farmhouse Set in Undulating Countryside

The Cottage is a beautifully restored 17th century farmhouse. It has the perfect blend of original features and luxurious contempory living. With large, light and spacious rooms, comfortable furniture and soft colours, the cottage is a real home.

The house is set in glorious, undulating countryside and the landscaped garden nestles peacefully amongst wonderful views. With crisp, clean air and silent nights, only broken by owl calls, it is the perfect place for a good rest. No expense has been spared to make this a holiday you will remember with deep affection.

Holiday Accommodation at The Cottage

The Cottage is a beautiful 17th century farmhouse that has been lovingly restored by the owners. The property now embraces contemporary luxury and style while enhancing all the original features to maximum effect. With large rooms and exceptionally high, beamed ceilings throughout, the house is light and bright and has been decorated with soft colours that enhance the tranquil atmosphere.

Upstairs

  • Two of the large double bedrooms have very comfortable, kingsize beds.
  • The third bedroom has twin beds, which are made to be attached to form another kingsize when required.

All three bedrooms are stylish and very comfortable, with good storage and excellent lighting. Each room also has a radiator that can be controlled by you. The beds have excellent, top quality bedding, and the sheets are all egyptian cotton. Cosy quilts and hot water bottles are available for cold winter nights.

  • The bathroom has a bidet, loo, double basin and an enormous walk-in shower. Large fluffy towels are provided and we supply all shower gels and soap. There is a hairdryer.

The house has a good selection of mirrors.

Downstairs

The whole of the downstairs lighting is on dimmer switches.

  • The sitting-room is lovely and bright. The huge inglenook fireplace has an open-fire wood burner, and all wood is provided. There are two comfortable sofas and one armchair with a footstool so you can put your feet up. The bookshelves hold a good selection of books; DVDs; and leaflets with places to see and things to do. There is british satellite TV; Wifi; iPod speakers/dock, and two portable DVD players.
  • A large downstairs cloakroom
  • The kitchen is wonderfully well equipped with every appliance and a good selection of machines such as: food-mixer, juicer, cappucino whizzer and much more. There are lots of utensils, plates, dishes, cutlery, glasses etc. The room is light and bright and a lovely place to cook and eat. There is a dining table that seats six, but can be expended to seat more. We also supply fabric napkins.
  • There is a utility room which houses the washing-machine. We live in the same hamlet (although we cannot see each other) and have a tumble dryer which you can use if you need to. The utility room also has: airers to dry your clothes; two bicycles; two sets of waders; a Nike exercise mat and a small exercise trampette.

Outside

The garden is landscaped with a pretty, round lawn edged with raised, stone-walled rose beds and lavender. There is a large terrace in front of the house (south facing) and here there is a table and chairs that seats six, with two large parasols. There are four excellent sun-loungers. Swimming towels are also provided. On a lower level there is a fabulous, large deck which is enveloped by trees for natural shade. Here there is also a table for six and it is the ideal situation for lunches on hot days. Two hammock chairs hang from solid branches of the old walnut tree. The views from here are gorgeous. There is a large plunge pool for you to cool off in and it is much enjoyed by children of all ages as well as adults, and a good place for an aperitif.

There is parking for two cars and the house is gated. The garden has an irrigation system so we don't have to disturb your privacy.

The owners live less than a minute away and are available to advise you at any time.

About St Privat in Corrèze, Limousin

The Cottage is in an idyllic hamlet of few houses that are all well-spaced to maximise privacy. The views surrounding the hamlet are undulating and lovely, providing some wonderful walks. The nearest village shops are in St Privat (8 minutes drive). Here you will find everything you need, including a couple of good local restaurants. If you wish to go further afield there is Argentat (20 minutes drive), which is located on the Dordogne river. It has a very picturesque quayside and there you will find a couple of restaurants and a very good ice-cream cafe. Argentat has quite a few good restaurants and we can advise you.

There are many sites to visit in the area. The most local ones are a 12th century fortress; a medieval village (we love this); a number of dams with dramatic views; beautiful hamlets and villages and many other historical sites.

If you feel like a change of scene you can take a forty minutes drive and you are in the country of the volcanos (now dorment) but worth a visit as rather dramatic. If you like mountains you can drive to the top of Puy Marie and look down on the rest of the world. Within 45 minutes you can be in the Dordogne; the Lot; or in only 10 minutes the Cantal.

Our nearest cities are Tulle (I'd give this a miss); Brive (of rugby fame); and Aurillac in the Cantal (each is a one hour drive). Both are very different and worth a visit. We are particularly fond of Brive with its yellow stone and mediterranean atmosphere. Aurillac has more of a mountain atmosphere.

Markets are a regular thing everywhere. Our nearest is Argentat which is every Thursday morning. Brive has a fabulous market (outside and covered) on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so if you visit it is worth doing so on those days. In the summer there are various evening markets, where you can also eat, drink and listen to music.

This area is very peaceful all year around. Argentat is busier in July and August. Brive seems unaffected as is St Privat and our local area.

The hamlet of Saleix is 500 meters above sea-level so the air is wonderful and the water is spring water.

How To Get To St Privat in Corrèze, Central France

Our nearest airports are: Brive (one hour and 15 minutes; Limoges; Rodez; Clermont-Ferrand (all within two hours); and Toulouse (2.5 hours).

The nearest train station is Brive-la-Guillarde (1 hour and 15 minutes).

If you are travelling but car (or hiring a car from Limoges airport) you need to head for the A20, direction: Toulouse. The Cottage is one hour from the motorway exit.

All channel ports can be taken. We are approximately 8 hours from Calais, depending upon the route you take.
