Home description

A large, entirely renovated Mas with a park of 1,500 sq metres on the edge of the village of Cavillargues, Mas de Cotton is romantically set amongst the vineyards of the Côtes du Rhone in the heart of the real Provence.

Totally private with an entry-phone at the gate, the property has about 400 sq metres of living area, a large courtyard featuring a stone built barbeque/oven and a large dining table under the trees, ensuring long leisurely lunches on hot summer days. It is within just a few minutes stroll from the village boulangerie, cafe and various small shops.

Part of the courtyard is a grassy play area for children with swings and ping-pong, totally protected and closed off from both pool and village, as is the courtyard.

The large pool (11m x 6m x 2m deep) has a wide paved surround with sunbeds and umbrellas, with the adjacent poolhouse being equipped with refrigerator, cooking facilities, WC and an outside shower. The pool and a small garden are separated from the main house by a stone wall with a gate for the safety of small children.

About the location

Provence/Gard is the most fortunate region where all the good things for which France is justly famous have combined.

The department of Gard stretches from the wild and beautiful mountains of the Cevennes across the Rhone Valley and sweeps down to the endless, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean.

Small, stonebuilt villages dot the hillsides amongst vineyards and fields of sunflowers, yet one is never far away from sophisticated, mediaeval towns. The Gard is immensely rich in historical sites dating from pre-Roman times and from the turbulent Middle Ages when various kings, French or otherwise, tried to annex the area, each leaving their mark.

With an enormously varied countryside enjoying a special light, similar to that of Tuscany, the Gard has long been favoured by artists and poets which today is evident in the many exhibitions and cultural events taking place even in the smallest of villages.

The closest country towns are Bagnols and Uzès, the latter being particularly charming and offering a very good choice of restaurants and cafes as well as its renowned Saturday market, Bagnols too has all facilities and a market on Wednesdays.

Other places of interest within easy reach include Avignon, Orange, Arles and Nimes. The famous Roman aqueduct; the Pont-du-Gard is nearby, the mountains of the Cevennes and Ardeche to the north and west and the endless beaches of the Mediterranean to the south.
