"La Grange" will give you the chance to enjoy your holiday in luxurious, comfortable and tranquil surroundings. So you can relax and explore the History and Heritage, Sights and Sounds and Food and Wine of South West France, Aquitaine, Lot et Garonne and the Dordogne.

La Grange is set in a tranquil 40 acre estate off a quiet 'chemin communale' behind a sleepy village in northern Lot et Garonne. It is just 10 minutes from the beautiful bastide town of Monflanquin and 20 minutes from Villeneuve sur Lot.

 

The property consists of the original farmhouse for use by the owners with pigeonnier tower, a Gite for up to 8 plus extra childs bed and cot, a separate annexe which sleeps 6 plus childs bed and cot - all set around a central courtyard. With its swimming pool, tennis court, vineyard, parkland with walks, picnic spots and superb views, the newly built Gite offers superb comfortable, spacious and peaceful accommodation and with central heating and open log fire, it has all year round appeal

Note:  The owners are not in residence when property is let so you can enjoy complete privacy during your stay.

Our aim at La Grange is to make your holiday so enjoyable that you want to book for next year before you leave - and to get you off to a good start, you will find that the arrival hamper contains everything you need for your first evening's meal and for breakfast the next day.

Please note that La Grange is part our home and designed to a very high standard. We feel it would be wrong to try and limit its use by excluding children and young people, however, we naturally expect our guests to value La Grange in every aspect.

Swimming Pool

At La Grange there is a 12m x 6m floodlit pool (the area around the pool can be illuminated to give night-time access) with a large sun terrace and separate terrace for eating outdoors with sun canopy. The pool is heated and is well equipped with sun loungers and some pool toys. For children, the shallow end with steps is only 0.7m deep. There is also a covered area with comfortable seating for the non-swimmers to view the "infinity pool" with its stunning views over parkland.

Please note that the pool is maintained to the highest of standards and has been fenced to meet with statutory requirements. Pool towels are not provided.

Other facilities

From the sitting room of La Grange large double doors give access to a table and chairs set beneath the balcony with a barbecue area overlooking the vineyard. There is a swing, table tennis table, board games, bicycles for five adults and of course a set of boules! There is also a new hard surface all-weather tennis court. Racquets, bats and balls are provided and can be found in the Laundry room in La Grange.

We would kindly ask that tennis/training shoes be worn to protect the surface at all times (also to make it more comfortable for the player!).

The Grounds

La Grange's forty acres give the property a special appeal. Around the buildings there is about 5 acres of parkland with mature trees and recently planted specimen trees and shrubs; in summer the courtyard is filled with the perfume of lavender and rosemary and flowering shrubs. Pots of geraniums and bouganvillea give splashes of wonderful colour. Part of the surrounding land is cultivated and the remainder is left to nature; where wild orchids and many other unusual wild flowers thrive in their natural habitat in spring and early summer.

For aspiring golfers the parkland is ideal for practising your pitching!

Through all of this runs a well worn path, with picnic spots, a pond and a lake giving guests the opportunity to explore. The views from the property are superb, particularly from the higher ground within the parkland where you can see the bastide towns of Monflanquin and Monsegur rising in the near distance - a must for the gourmande and history lovers alike.

The grounds are well maintained throughout the year with parkland and surrounding lawns cut regularly.

The Gîte

It has been carefully designed in part of our large barn and is maintained, furnished and equipped to the highest of standards with the emphasis throughout on style, comfort, convenience and quality. It overlooks the small hilltop town of Monsegur some 5 kms away.

The small house

The Small House is a completely self-contained property some 50 yards from La Grange. It provides extra sleeping accommodation all at ground level for up to 7 people and comprises:

 

About the location

Monflanquin and surrounding area

The nearby attractive small Bastide town of Monflanquin with its medieval market square and arcades is just 10 minutes away by car. With it colourful market, shops and adjacent small supermarket it provides for all everyday requirements. Apart from Monflanquin there are numerous other small bastides in the area and the larger town of Villeneuve sur Lot with its large superstores is within 20 minutes drive.

Finally, for eating out, Monflanquin and the surrounding villages offer a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. From the simple rustic outdoor Auberge to some of the finest restaurants in the area where you can sample gourmet delights of the region - Cassoulet, Confit de Canard and Glace au Armagnac aux Pruneaux to name but a few! You will find various brochures and leaflets giving details of some of the establishments we can personally recommend! (We would welcome any comments and your own suggestions to the growing list of restaurants we have found in the many years we have been here).

How to get here

La Grange is within a day's drive from the Channel ports of either Cherbourg. Caen/Ouistreham or the tunnel. From April to October inclusive, bookings are normally Sunday to Saturday to give us time to prepare between guest, easier travel and uninterrupted weekends; for the rest of the year booking dates are flexible.

La Grange is only 40 minutes from Bergerac Airport, served from Southampton, Bristol, Stansted and 2hrs from Bordeaux and Toulouse airports, both served by Heathrow and Gatwick - How about considering Fly-Drive

Car rental facilities are available at all of these airports.

Additional price information

All prices are per week for the combined properties (for the first and second weeks) from Saturday to Saturday. Electricity, water, wood and central heating all included. Bed linen and towels provided (except pool towels)  Additional weeks - prices on request

Also long winter lets available, October to March, full central heating and log fire, prices negotiable.

La Grange available separately outside peak rental season if required - please ask for rates.

Deposit of 30% is required on booking, balance due 8 weeks before start of holiday. Returnable security deposit of £300 per week to be paid with the balance. This will be returned immediately after the holiday providing no damage has occurred to the properties or their contents.

La Grange and the Small House are cleaned in between rentals and will be prepared for your arrival by our housekeeper. Prior to your departure we kindly ask that you allow our housekeeper to inspect the property with you and check that all is in good order to enable the return of your security deposit. Although the property is prepared after your departure for the next guests, it is reasonable to expect that you have left the property as tidy as you found it upon arrival. 

Guests are welcomed on arrival day anytime after 4pm and must vacate by 10am on morning of departure to allow access for cleaning and preparation for the next guests.
