Bienvenue au Tortillard is a 19th century Picardy-style farmhouse with the guest-rooms independent from the main farmhouse. It has been restored to a very high quality, conserving all its rustic charm. It lies on the outskirts of the village of Rang du Fliers, surrounded by fields and the waters of the River Fliers. It is ideally situated for exploring "La Vallée de l'Authie and La Baie de Somme".

This superb hide away, in the middle of the countryside, yet only 3 miles from the beach, consists of four individually themed bedrooms each with its own television and en-suite bath or shower. All rooms are centrally heated, and the generous breakfast is served in the spacious living room in front of a roaring open fire. There is also a living room, tea and coffee facilities, library, games.

Outside are an off-road parking area, and a garden with farm animals to enchant young and old a like. It is suitable for wheelchair users.

Breakfast

To give you a good start to your day, a generous breakfast is served in the dining room, in front of open log fire. The menu includes home-made bread, cake,  rhubarb and apple, plum and blackberry jam, with viennoiserie and poppy-seed, sesame and traditional country bread cooked for you,  and new-laid egg.

Also on the ground floor, is a double bedroom (double bed has been upgraded to King Size 1,60m x 2m) decorated with authentic and original tack.

This room has a horsey feel and has double doors opening onto the terrace with views over the garden, park and river. The shower room is fully tiled, fitted with a thermostatic instant hot water system and has separate WC.

About the location

Bienvenue au Tortillard is ideally situated close to sea and countryside, it is on the outskirts of the little town of Rang du Fliers, where it is surrounded by woods and fields and looks over the river 'Fliers', after which the town is named.

Next to the house lies the start of the 'Boucles du Marais' footpath (6 miles-2 hours), which follows the river 'Fliers' to Les Tadornes fishing lake. Keen bird watchers will spot herons, marsh harriers, Colvert's duck, snipe and moorhen. 500 yards from the house is the start of a cycle track leading to the mouth of the Authie and the port of Madelon, as well as Merlimont village, where you can join the track leading to Etaples and Boulogne sur Mer.

The region is noted for its food, and you will find many restaurants nearby offering local produce, regional specialities, fish, sea food and game. There is a wide range of activities and sports to choose from.

How to get here

Bienvenue au Tortillard is on the outskirts of the village of Rang du Fliers, 2 miles from exit 25 on the A16 motorway, 2 miles from Berck, 6 miles from Montreuil sur Mer, 10 miles from Le Touquet, 30 miles from Boulogne and 50 miles from Calais and the Channel Tunnel. It is 140 miles from Paris, a little less from Londres, and only 150 miles from Brussels.

By plane:

Airports, Paris (140 miles) Le Touquet (10 miles) car hire available.

By road:

From Paris, 140 miles : follow the A16 motorway in the direction of Amiens and take exit 25 towards Berck sur Mer.From Brussels, 150 miles : follow the E40-E17 / A25 via Ghent and from Dunkerque the A16, leaving at exit 25 towards Berck sur Mer. From London, 136 miles : follow the M2 or M20 to the coast, to take the Ferry or Channel Tunnel, join the A16, leaving by exit 25 in the direction of Berck sur Mer.

By train:

From Paris Gare du Nord or Lille : get off at Rang du Fliers-Verton station Coming by Eurostar or TGV from London or Paris : there is a connecting train from Calais for Rang du Fliers-Verton The Tortillard is 1 mile from Rang du Fliers-Verton station. There is a 24-hour taxi service.
