Home description

The house is located just at the end of the village, along a peaceful road which is a ten-minute walk from the village shops. It has a 'lived-in' feel and has been newly and carefully restored with an emphasis on retaining the property's original character with its old beams and exposed-stone walls.

The present owners bought it regarding to their future retirement, and it has been equipped with all modern facilities and very comfortably furnished. So, it is well designed and well fitted to welcome hosts all year long.

• The kitchen is spacious and fully fitted, as it would be in any home: hob, oven, double sink, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine, iron & board.
• 3 bedrooms: one on the ground floor, which has a double bed and en suite bathroom, and two upstairs (one with a double bed and one for children with a pair of bunk beds). One of the bedrooms has French windows opening onto a large furnished terrace from where it is possible to directly reach the swimming pool.
• Two WCs.
• A bathroom upstairs.
• A comfortable living room with settee and armchairs, you have TV (with French channels and European channels from ASTRA satellite), board games and books.
• The lower floor is a self-contained unit suitable for people who want to remain independent, or who have difficulties in going upstairs (if you have a wheelchair, the width of the corridor is 0.70 m).
• All linen for the beds is supplied, likewise bathroom and kitchen towels.

Outside

You have your own private swimming pool, with nice paved stairs and path to reach it. Young children can be supervised because of the complete closure of the terrace near the house. A private courtyard allows you to park your car. We are sorry, but we cannot accept pets in the property. We are also grateful to smokers for not smoking in the house. For a small charge, it is possible to arrange for cleaning and baby-sitting during your stay. Please ask at the start of your holiday.

About the location

The department of Lot is one of France's most appealing regions, with fine and picturesque villages, a very nice climate, reputed gastronomy and, above all, very welcoming inhabitants! Marcilhac sur Célé is placed just between Cahors and Figeac, so you can follow the river Célé and return by the river Lot to find beautiful and diverse countryside with medieval villages built in the valleys and gorges. You can visit well-known places like St Cirq Lapopie perched high above the Lot, and also many other ones like Calvignac at the top of its hill, Bouzies with its historic town, Cahors, the historic capital, built in a sudden loop of the Lot spanned by a fourteenth-century, six-arched bridge, and don't miss Figeac, a very well-preserved town of the Middle Ages. Just in Marcilhac, you have an magnificent abbey from IXth - XIIth and XVIth centuries, which was a stopping stage for pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela.

Everywhere, you have a lot of castles, citadels, towers and fortifications, attractive 'bastides', abbeys and Romanesque churches. In less than one hour by car, you can also visit the beautiful and historic sites like Rocamadour, Moissac, Cordes, Conques, Villefranche de Rouergue, Albi and Toulouse. And you also have many other things to do !

For example, you can explore splendid grottoes and underground caverns, Pech Merle, just near Marcilhac, and the sensational 'Gouffre de Padirac', which one explores partly by boat and partly on foot. Nice museums offer you the occasion to get to know better local celebrities like Toulouse-Lautrec at Albi, or Champollion (the great specialist of Egypt) at Figeac.

Last, but not the least, if you appreciate good food and wine, you will be delighted by everything you will find! The Lot is above all the land of gastronomy. Such delicacies indigenous to the area include farm bred Quercy lamb, goose or duck liver paté, duck in its many forms, cabécou cheese of Rocamadour, walnuts, truffles, and countless Cahors and Gaillac wines. And there are many restaurants to choose from, specialising in the local dishes to suit every palate. A lot of information is available at the house on the Lot and the nearby regions.
