Home description

Where is it

Cazals is a romantic, exquisitely restored, 19th century stone farmhouse surrounded by mature trees, woodland and fields.

Meticulously renovated by the owner Marc Jeanneteau, a French painter and professional photographer, Cazals offers accommodation for up to six people wanting an authentic taste of French country living in a tranquil, private setting.

Accommodation detail

The house consists of one floor of living space.

All the rooms (except the bathroom) have retained their original wood floors. Original works of art hang throughout the house

The Garden and Surrounds

Outside the house, in the front garden is a table that seats six under the shade of a plum tree. There's a barbecue and an oil lamp suspended from a branch for late night outdoor cooking.

A 10 x 5 metre pool is situated in a protected, south-facing field next to the house. It is for the guest's exclusive use.

Fruit trees - plums, figs, apples, almonds and cherries, surround the property. A wooded path behind the house leads to a "source" (spring) in the valley below.

There is a shaded area within the property large enough to accommodate two cars

About the location

Cazals is a perfect base for exploring the magnificent Quercy Blanc region of France. Surrounded by gently rolling hills, fields of sunflowers and corn, this is a protected region where building restrictions are strictly enforced. Stone farmhouses are dotted along the quiet country lanes, and cows and sheep graze on wide open pastures.

Montaigu de Quercy (15 minutes by car) has a popular Saturday market that attracts local farmers selling their home-grown produce. Fresh goats cheese, organic vegetables and free range duck are just some of the delights on offer. Montaigu also has a large lake with a sandy beach, water slides and lots of activities for children.

Lauzerte is a 12th century bastide town perched on top of a hill. A 20 minute drive from the house, this historic village attracts artists from all over France. Throughout the summer there are painting exhibitions, outdoor concerts in the main square, a Saturday market and several excellent restaurants.

Wine lovers will appreciate the fruit of the local vines. Cahors and the valleys surrounding it are famous for the full bodied vin rouge. A half hour drive and you're in oeneophile heaven, nearly all the local vineyards provide tasting opportunities.
