The house is a 16th century house in three storeys (3 x 35m2) situated in the small village of Blars in the Lot - between Cahors (40 km) and Figeac (30 km) about 600 km south of Paris.

It is really a very quiet village - no tourists (only local people with a Gauloise in the corner of the mouth), no discotheques, no pubs and no shops. However it is only 10 km to villages where you can buy everyday necessities and have a drink and/or a meal.

Living in the same village some hundred meters away, the owners can help to make your stay successful (e.g. reservations for restaurants). They are Danish and speak English as well as French - and of course Danish if you prefer!

There is no swimming-pool at the house, but the owners pool (5m x 12m) is at your disposal Monday - Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The living area

You can comfortably sleep 4 people in the two bedrooms, (one room with 1 double bed, another with 2 single beds) - but you can sleep another one or two using the sofa bed in the loft. We provide the continental quilts and pillows - you only need to bring bed linen.

There is a bathroom with shower  and a separate toilet. There is a washing machine.

In the sitting/dining room which has an old Fireplace, there is a well-equipped kitchen with gas cooker, electric oven and fridge with all basic necessities (salt, olive oil, vinegar, flour, sugar, spices etc.) and it is equipped with both towels and tea towels.

There is also a telephone on which you may make local calls only - but family/friends can call you. The cosy loft has television on which you can receive five French channels.

Behind the house there is a covered terrace with a view and charming private courtyard with garden furniture and barbecue. It is possible to park a car (or two) in the entrance, which is enclosed.

About the location

Most of the Lot department consist of limestone covered with huge oak forests, which gives an impression of being deserted - not without reason as the population has been halved during the last hundred years. That gives you on the other hand a number of possibilities for quiet excursions with wonderful views. (Rocamadour is 45 minutes away and St-Cirq-La-Popie 25 minutes), and in the rivers (Dordogne, Lot and Célé), you can go swimming or canoeing.

Because of the limestone you will also find a number of caves with prehistoric paintings (e.g. Grotte Pech Merle - 10 minutes from the house) or with stalagmites/stalactites (they are everywhere) - not to mention the famous "Gouffre Padirac" with its subterranean river, where you can go on an underground boat trip.

But maybe the most important: the area is known as "the stomach of France" with all you can imagine: truffles, "foie gras", "confits", fresh fruit and vegetables (in picturesque markets) and the famous Cahors-wine.... everything! - not to speak of unforgettable restaurants with very reasonably prices.

You can easily get here by motorway (Calais-Paris-Orleans-Brive) or by air (London Gatwick-Toulouse, London Stanstead - Rodez or Liverpool - Limoges).
