18th Century Farmhouse with Salt Water Swimming Pool, Library & Gymnasium

Essenac, surrounded by mature oak and chestnut woodlands is close to the village of Saint Cyr where there is a delightful 12 century church and stone archway

The 200 year old stone built farmhouse, is set in over an acre of gardens and woodland, and being slightly elevated, commands panoramic views of the Limousin countryside.

Set below an orchard, the 10m x 5m private salt water, swimming pool, can be internally floodlit at night, and has ample space for sunbathing and waterside cocktails. In addition, you can play boules, and basket ball, and a baby slide is provided for children. For parents the idea of candlelit evenings, dining alfresco, sipping cocktails on the terrace, overlooking the rolling meadows late into the night, is all that is required to recharge the batteries.

Having 5 spacious bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, the Farmhouse accommodates 11 guests in comfort (plus a cot) with 2 sleeping on the double futon, in the newly converted granary, which overlooks the pool and gardens.  Two cots and a high chair are available and to save you space when packing your car boot,  we have a comfortable pushchair for you to use.

The granary has been converted into a large open plan area containing a small gymnasium, table tennis table and library with seating, overlooking the swimming pool.

Worth Knowing:

• Essenac is privately let out, as above, during May/June/July/August and September. - please see availability chart. 
• A 3 course meal including wine can be provided on the day of arrival - £20/person (min 6 persons).    Dinner served from 7.30pm.  Please reserve at time of balance payment.            
• Good quality adult bikes can be hired @£25 per bike  - to be reserved at time of balance payment.
• Close by, is an 18 hole golf course at St Junien (15mins).  There are 4 others within a 30km radius of the farmhouse.
• When the farmhouse is not rented out, as Shades of France, we host, 7 day Painting Holiday/Courses which are held during one week in June, one week in early July and two weeks during September with experienced, visiting art tutors
       - Full board accommodation - £795 per person. 
       - Non-painting partners - £550 per person.

Holiday Accommodation at Farmhouse

Ground Floor

• Large tiled entrance hall.
• Large lounge/dining room. (32sqm ) A comfortable, French styled lounge with large table and chairs to seat 12 adults. Wood burning stove in original stone fireplace and original beams. TV, DVD and CD player.
• Kitchen. (leading to south facing terrace), containing stainless steel  5 burner, range style cooker, double Belfast sink unit, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave.
• Bedroom 1 (15sqm) with double bed is on the ground floor with en-suite bathroom.
• Separate downstairs toilet.

First Floor

• Stairs lead to a mezzanine/reading area with views over the garden and pool.
• Bedroom 2 - (20 sqm) family room with King size bed, cot and ensuite bathroom.
• Bedroom 3 - (16sqm) family room with King size and single bed.
• Bedroom 4 - (11.5sqm) with one single bed. Possibility for extra cot.
• Bedroom 5 - (15sqm) double room with King size bed.
• Ample storage.
• Third bathroom shared by bedrooms 3 and 5.

Second Floor

• Table tennis table, gymnasium, small library with seating area.
• Double fouton.

About St Cyr in Haute-Vienne, Limousin

Within the National Park of Perigord-Limousin, lies a land of lakes, woodland and chateaux. Long summer days and warm nights, peace and tranquility await you. Visit the wine museums in Cognac, or go on to the west coast at Bordeaux or La Rochelle for a day trip.

The Dordogne Valley is less than 2 hours and water sports on Lac Vassiviere easily reached from the farmhouse. Limoges (28km) is a city world famous for its porcelain, and has a small but beautiful medieval centre.

Nearby is the preserved village of Oradour sur Glane (15km), scene of a horrific massacre in the second world war, and a national French monument. In nearby Rochechourt (10km), see the largest meteorite crater in the world!

How To Get To St Cyr in Haute-Vienne, Central France

Limoges Airport is only 30mins with direct flights from London Stanstead or Southampton from June 2004.

The journey from Caen, St Malo or the shuttle takes between 5 to 6 ½ hours without stops.
