Home description

The ancient hilltop village of Mirabel in the fertile Aygues valley has panoramic views over the spectacular Baronnies Mountains and majestic Mount Ventoux. It is surrounded by olive groves, lavender fields, vineyards and orchards of apricot, cherry and plum trees.

The house is on the edge of the village, within a short stroll of warm bread and croissants for lazy breakfasts on the roof terrace, and two cafes/bars where you can relax whilst sipping one the famous locally made Rhone Valley wines. There is also an excellent pizzeria and two superb restaurants with gardens in which to while away those long summer evenings. Other amenities include an office de tourisme, small supermarket, tabac, post office, pharmacy, butcher and tennis courts. Approximately 2kms away there is a small lake and a pool complex on the banks of the Aygues river.

The house is an old semi-detached village mas which has been recently renovated to a high standard in Provençal style and is newly furnished. It is over 80m2 in area with a small interior courtyard and a roof terrace with superb views over the Baronnies mountains and Mount Ventoux. It is laid out as follows :

Ground Floor

• Twin bedroom with - ensuite shower room fully tiled with shower, basin and WC.
• Utility room with sink and washing machine.
• Courtyard with furniture for sitting out.
• Garage - parking also available opposite.

First Floor

• Large open plan dining room with seating for six people and stone fireplace with bread oven, two windows with views over the valley.
• Hand built wooden fitted kitchen area, fully equipped with built in oven and hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster.
• Superb open plan sitting room with stone fireplace and sliding double windows with stunning views across the valley. Double sofa bed with sprung mattress. Built-in cupboard with hanging rail and shelf. Television, CD/Radio/Cassette player.

Upper Floor

• Double bedroom with two French windows and stunning views over the valley.
• Bathroom fully tiled with built in wooden vanity unit, bath with wall mounted shower attachment, basin and WC.
• Roof terrace with spectacular view over the Baronnies mountains and Mount Ventoux, table and six chairs for eating out.

About the location

The village is ideally located between two picturesque market towns. Within 10 minutes on one side is historic Vaison la Romaine with its important Roman ruins, festivals, internationally famous concerts in the amphitheatre, street markets and hilltop castle. Within ten minutes on the other side is the olive capital Nyons with its bustling twice weekly markets, boutiques, galleries, cafes, winding medieval streets, Roman bridge and motorbike museum. Several very good restaurants and cafes in or near the village, which also has all the typical village shops.

Within 50 minutes you can be in the heart of Avignon, enjoying the papal palace and historic bridge, and within 25 minutes you can be in Orange where the famous Roman theatre and triumphal arch are located.

There are excellent vineyards in the immediate vicinity and in approximately twenty minutes you can be touring the world-renowned estates of Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise. The numerous beautiful medieval villages and towns in the area each have their own special atmosphere and include Grignan with the largest renaissance chateau in south east France, Suze-la-Rousse with it's 12 century castle perched on a rock, Pierrelongue with its incredible church, and Chamaret with its castle and keep. Stop off along the way at one of the many farms and buy fresh apricots and cherries, local cheeses, lavender and olive oil.

If you like Mediterranean beaches they can be reached in approximately an hour and a half. The skiing resorts of Superdevoluy and Ceuze are also around an hour and a half away.

How to get here

Air: Nimes airport is approximately 1hr 15 minutes and Lyon, Montpellier and Marseille airports are approximately 1hr 30 mins. Buzz, Ryan Air, Go and British Airways fly to these destinations.

Train: Eurostar from London Waterloo, change at Lille or Paris, TGV to Avignon (7hrs)

Road: The journey from Calais takes approximately 8 hours almost all of which can be done by motorway.
