Location, location, location!

This is where you want to spend your holidays. In a house ten minutes walk from a quaint village with four restaurants, and a shorter walk to the river Dordogne itself. Once in your car you are only half an hour from a huge variety of places to see, and activities to do.

Come and relax in the shade of the catalpa and acacia trees in the garden of this 4 bedroom house located less than half a mile from the pretty medieval village of Trémolat. The house is located near the "Cingle" or loop of the river Dordogne and is in an area of special conservation. Other houses are nearby, you are not isolated, but it is very quiet and peaceful.

Swim in the private fenced, 8 x 4 metre pool with Roman staircase and jacuzzi jets. You can lounge beside the pool or wandering when you wish, down through the orchard where you can pick the fruit in season (cherries, apples, plums, pears, walnuts). The bottom of the long orchard garden comes within 20 metres of the river Dordogne. Public access to the river including a boat slip and the "Bassin Nautique" is just a couple of hundred metres away.

There is garden furniture, table, chairs, sun loungers and barbecue. For the children there is a playframe and slide (for the under eights), a big selection of outdoor toys and games for both in the garden and in the pool. Accommodation detail

Floors are ceramic tiled throughout, except in the bedrooms, which have wooden floors.

Ground Floor

• Entrance Hall
• Well equipped kitchen, including fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, dual gas/electric cooker, coffee maker, and supplied with plenty of crockery and cutlery etc. French doors lead to large deck, with plenty of space for al fresco dining and steps to garden. (This will be constructed in January, photos available from late March.)
• Large living room reached by a few steps, has a large wood burning open fireplace and French windows to both front (east) and back (west with view of pool) gardens. TV for 3 French TV stations, and satellite UK/Irish stations, and DVD player. Also combined TV/video for video viewing. (Bring those videos or DVDs you never got a chance to watch at home! The video recorder is compatible with English/Irish video standards) radio/CD player, selection of books and games, and good selection of videos for all ages.
• Utility area with separate enclosed shower cubicle, washing machine, sink, ironing board, iron and Dutch airer. Outside this area there is a separate WC and a cold shower for after swimming on those really hot days.
• Bedroom 1 a double bedroom fitted wardrobe, french door to shady terrace and back garden.
• Bedroom 2 a twin bedroom with fitted wardrobe.
• Bathroom with full sized bath, shower, wash handbasin and bidet.

• We suggest, that although this is a spacious house which sleeps 9, it is most suitable for groups/families consisting of 6 or fewer adults, the rest being children of 12 or less.

First Floor

• Bedroom 3 with double bed, wash handbasin and bidet.
• Bedroom 4 with three single beds, children's books and games.

About the location

Trémolat has a boulangerie, 2 small supermarkets, one with a butchers counter, one bar/restaurant, one pizzeria, and two very high quality restaurants: one at the Vieux Logis luxury hotel, the other is the Bistrot d'en Face, on the main square (owned by the hotel, and with a similar quality of cuisine). There is also a weekly market on Tuesday mornings. Also a barber (from whom fishing permits can be bought), a hairdresser, an enamelwork studio, and in season, a small souvenir shop.

Trémolat and The Dordogne

Trémolat, a medieval village with enormous charm, is located beside the Dordogne where is forms a massive "Cingle" or loop. The river etches a huge arc and becomes wide enough to be a lake (hence the water skiing). Close by there are magnificent views over the Cingle du Trémolat. There is a fortified church which testifies to the turbulent history of the area.

The nearest shopping towns are the beautiful Le Bugue on the Vezere River to the east, and Lalinde on the Dordogne to the west. The river Vézère joins the Dordogne at the lovely village of Limeuil just a few minutes drive from Trémolat. Enclosed between the rivers Vezere and Dordogne (the "golden triangle") is a veritable treasure of prehistoric sites, beautiful caves from, for example, Lascaux with cave paintings, to the Gouffre de Proumeyssac with stalactites in a forty metre high underground cavern.

All over the region are "bastide" and other towns with restaurants serving the wonderful Perigordian food. There are also many 'Fermes Auberges', which are farm restaurants, serving their own produce at amazingly good value prices. All these locations are within easy drives from Trémolat. For those who like the French markets, you are in easy reach of one in different towns every day of the week.

Look west for a moment, and there is the Perigord "Pourpre" (Purple Perigord) so called because it is a huge wine producing region, with Bergerac, Pecharmont, St. Emilion and Bordeaux, all within a comfortable drive. Wine tasting possibilities abound!! The Chateau of Monbazillac is but one particularly wonderful example of architecture, and a wonderful wine which goes so well with paté du foie gras, a speciality of Perigord.

Other activities in the area include the fascinating folk 'village du Bournat', in le Bugue. There are many chateaux and wonderful gardens within an easy drive of Trémolat.

In short, Trémolat is in the centre of a region which would take happy months to explore.

How to get here

By Car

Many routes are possible after travelling through any of the ferryports. We often travel to Cherbourg and head for Le Mans, Tours, then the A10 autoroute to Poitiers, and on to Limoges, Perigueux, Le Bugue, and then signposts to Tremolat. Roscoff is also good, with excellent roads down western France to north of Bordeaux, where you turn east for Bergerac.

By Air

You can fly to Bordeaux, which is about a 2 hour drive via Bergerac to Tremolat, or fly Ryanair from Stanstead or Flybe from Southampton both direct to Bergerac, which is about a 30 minute drive to Tremolat.

• Should you cancel more than 3 months before the holiday time, your booking deposit will be returned less 10% for administration costs.

• Each bed is provided with an English/Irish style duvet, and two pillows per person.
