About the location

Burgundy's reputation for its wine is matched by the regions reputation for gastronomy and traditional cuisine. The countryside is a mixture of rolling hills, criss-crossed with vineyards, forests, rivers and lakes. Fulvy is just one of the charming medieval villages scattered throughout the region, and both Le Petit Village and Spring Cottage provide an ideal holiday base for exploring Burgundy.

Visit the famous Chablis vineyards and Tonnerre vineyards just 20 minutes drive. Taste some of the famous Chablis grands crus, i.e. Blanchot, Grenouille, Fourchaume.

The Wine Cote of Beaune is probably the most famous vineyard in the world. Signs bearing a bunch of grapes will guide you through the 13 villages and towns which are flood-lit at night. Don't forget to make the vital stops in the wine tasting cellars and perhaps buy a bottle or two to take home, i.e. Pommard, Gevrey Chambertin, Volnay.

The area has a rich historic and architectural inheritance, you will pass through typical market towns on your way to famous Châteaux and Abbeys, ie. Château d'Ancy le Franc, 5 minutes drive away, is among the most beautiful residences of the renaissance period in Burgundy. Château de Tanlay is famous for its gallery in trompe l'oeil.

The famous Abbey de Fontenay, was founded in 1118 and consecrated by St. Bernard in 1147 and is now UNESCO World Heritage listed. Visit the medieval village of Noyers-sur-Serein, famous for its steep tiled roofs and beautiful half timbered and arcaded houses. Noyers belongs to the closed club the 'Plus beaux villages de France' (the most beautiful villages in France). The Prieure De Vausse, a Cistercian Priory built at the beginning of the 13th century is also worth a visit.

During the summer months there are numerous art expositions and classical and jazz concerts to cater for all tastes.

The cities of Dijon and Troyes and Auxerre are noted for their historical and architectural interest and have beautiful shops, cafés and restaurants. All within one hours drive. Visit Paris or Eurodisney by car - 2 hours drive, or relax and take the TGV (high speed train) from Montbard direct to Eurodisney one hour 5 minutes.

Do not forget the tantalising delicacies - Epoisses cheese, Flavigny's aniseed balls and Dijon's mustard and gingerbread. You will find clear and lazy streaming water throughout the countryside where you can have a picnic or perhaps go fishing, take your pick, nature will make you forget all your worries. The Burgundy canal is just 3 minutes walk, ideal for long walks, cycling, etc. The open air market in Chablis is not to be missed and each town has its own open market day throughout the year.
