Restored Ardechois Farmhouse with Pool

The Mournet is a beautifully restored farmhouse that dates back to 1860 and is situated in the heart of the Ardeche in the Eyrieux Valley - about 2 hours drive from Lyon and Nimes and 1 hour from Valence. The wild and unspoilt beauty of the Ardèche countryside holds many surprises not least of all the spectacular Gorges de l'Ardèche and those of the Eyrieux Valley. The Ardeche is a close neighbour to the Massif Central region - another amazingly unspoilt rural region with rolling hills and incredible views. All seasons are great for exploring, walking, wine tasting, chilling-out and enjoying rural France at its finest but each season offers its own special characteristics. May and June are wonderful months to make the most of the wild flowers and late Spring time splendour. July and August are great for an excellent Summer holiday without the rush of the crowds. September can be wonderfully warm and a real late Summer treat and October is just picturesque with the trees donning their Autumnal coats.

We organise themed weekends including Art Courses, Yoga Retreats & Bike, Hike, Horseride and Yoga weekends.....!

The Mournet is a traditional Ardechois farmhouse completely renovated in 1990 to reflect its original charm. Further renovations in 2002 converted the buildings into holiday properties with a touch of modern luxury. Three parts of the farmhouse - the garden level (La Chataigne), the stables in the courtyard  (L'Ecurie) and the barn at road level (La Grange)- are now spacious, comfortable and completely independent holiday accommodation from which you can fully appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of this largely undiscovered region. Each property has been created to have its own private entrance and terrace and/or garden with barbecue and garden furniture and each property offers its own unique charm, style and colour scheme with modern comforts, a contemporary feel and a real home away from home.

The heated 12m x 6m Swimming Pool (salt water filter) is situated in the south-facing beautiful gardens that slope gently down to the Glueyre River where you can fish for trout, play in the natural rock pools (for kids of all ages) or just enjoy the view. The pool will soon be heated too!!!!  is cleaned daily and boasts a large sun terrace with loungers, parasols and a thermal cover placed on the pool every evening to keep the water at a comfortable temperature.  The large gardens are well maintained with little "English touches" and plenty of space has been allocated for games including a table tennis table, a fabulous swing & slide combo & a croquet pitch.

Yoga and Ayurvedic Massage are also available for you to enjoy during your stay at the Mournet.  A private yoga session can be adapted to your needs aligning & stretching your body and calming the mind.  Ayurvedic Massage is a gentle but energising massage which works on relaxing and recharging the body, uncoiling the stress of daily life, detoxing and allowing the energy to flow freely.... We also run Yoga Holidays and Retreats in the Ardeche and Savoie mountains including great "Ski & Yoga" weekends during the Winter season - please email us for more information.

A beautiful private tennis court is also available for hire just 5 minutes (on foot) up the road from us.  A small footbridge at the end of the garden leads you to the very traditional village (500 metres from us) with its Thursday market, well-stocked village shop, bakery and bar/tabac. Further afield there is plenty to do and see... your choice...do as little or as much as you like!

We believe that the "Little Extra" touches count. That is why we make sure your stay is as well-prepared as possible. Your bed linen and towels (hand, bath and tea towels) are provided and beds are made up before your arrival so no need to motivate yourself for this after a long day of travelling.  You can take a dip in the pool and enjoy a glass of local wine from the complimentary bottle waiting for you in your chosen property. A basket of home grown walnuts also welcome you to Le Mournet for those with a sweet tooth our pillow chocolates are a treat on your first night with us. You can also pre-order a welcome basket (see little extras for details) to save your shopping the day of your arrival. A detailed welcome folder will help you prepare your holiday itinerary with something for everyone we hope - from a gastro/wine tour to sports and local sightseeing, from canoeing down the Gorges & swinging through trees to relaxing by the pool with a good book....

About Marcols Les Eaux in Ardèche, Rhone Alps

The Mournet is situated at the entrance of the village of Albon in the heart of the Boutières Park at an altitude of 630m. The village benefits from a warm climate and despite the tranquil environment the house is only 500m from the village shop / bakery (open Sunday mornings as well) where they sell some mean almond croissant, tabac and bar. The village pétanque (boules) ground is at the bottom of the garden by the river as are great spots for trout fishing and natural pools for bathing or exploring. There a couple of very good local restaurants each with their own VERY distinct and orignal charcter – worth a detour!

The Ardeche's climate is mild and is ideal for hot, sunny summer holidays as well as spring and autumn breaks. The colours around the Mournet and Albon are quite spectacular around October time. The distinct lack of pollution in the area means that the early morning and evening skies can be quite wonderful – definitely worth a visit and a good few photos.

There are a number of villages surrounding Albon including St. Pierreville - with a hotel/restaurant, shop, tabac and bars and a lively market on a Sunday morning - Gluiras – with a very pleasant restaurant - and the picturesque St. Sauveur de Montagut, the hub of the local area, which has a market every Saturday morning, various shops, bars and restaurants and a variety of local amenities. The Cheylard is the largest town near-by (about 22k depending on the route you take) where you will find all the major shops and a number of pleasant restaurants, bars and cafés and again a great much bigger market on a Wednesday morning.

The area is full of pictoresque gorges including the better known Ardeche gorges and other lesser known but equally beautiful ones around Albon itself in the Eyrieux Valley, the gorges of the Beaume, the Drobie and the Chassezac. South of Albon are plenty of pretty villages and towns often perched on the side of cliffs – Chalençon, Antraigues, Balazuc, Aubenas, Largentiere...... In the immediate area you can visit the large number of gothic churches, various castles and Mont Gerbier de Jonc (the Loire's source). The waterfall of Pic de Ray and the beautiful volcanic Lac d'Issarlès (Haute Loire) are less than an hour's drive away and you can rock climb, mountain bike and make the most of a number of water sports here.
