La Roulais stands in 25 acres of private parkland close to the forest of Juigné and 10kms from the local market town of Chateaubriant. Located in the picturesque region of the Loire Atlantique, midway between the cathedral cities of Rennes, Angers and Nantes.

The owner's are able to offer their guests all year round self catering accommodation in two separate, fully equipped and centrally heated gites set in private grounds.

Guests staying in a cottage are welcome to dine at our Tables d'Hôtes. This is often a good idea for nights of arrival and departure. Please fill in the appropriate section on the booking form.

This property is suitable for people with restricted mobility.

A newly converted, single storey traditional "long house", enjoying south facing views and a private setting, within the grounds.

• Kitchen - fully equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, ironing board and iron
• Sitting room - and dining area with colour satellite TV, video, DVD and Hi-Fi. French doors lead to a private patio, garden and parking area.
• Master double bedroom - plus en-suite bathroom with bath/shower, washbasin, shaving-socket, heated towel rail and wc
• Two twin bedrooms. It is possible to put 2 exra singles in one of them
• Bathroom - with bath/shower, washbasin, shaving-socket, heated towel rail and wc.

The two sitting room sofas can convert into comfortable double beds and cots are available if required.

The garden is equipped with garden furniture and a barbecue for relaxing outdoor meals.

About the location

Ideally situated in a central location for either visiting quiet sandy beaches, coastal resorts or major towns and cities. Elegant shops, fine restaurants, historical attractions and the famous Loire Valley are all close to hand.

The local village of Soudan is only 4 km with a village store (open Sunday mornings), a charcuterie, a post office, bars and a choice of two boulangeries.

Chateaubriant is just 10 km away and hosts a big colourful market every Wednesday morning. The town offers its own chateau, theatre and cinema plus a large range of shops including two hyper-markets. There is a wide variety of restaurants, from fine traditional French cuisine, to a creperie, moulerie, brasseries, Italian etc. If you feel like an evening off doing the cooking, a four course dinner is also available in the main house, on reservation.

Local towns have their own colourful weekly markets, an abundance of shops, bars and chateaux.

• Nantes – capital of the Pays de la Loire. A dynamic port on one of the loveliest rivers in France, the Erdre, brimming with gardens and parks, chateaux and manor houses.
• La Baule – 9km of wonderful, long sandy beaches, seafood restaurants - where mussels and oysters are a must.
• Angers – capital of Anjou and gateway to the Loire Valley - a region recently designated as a World Heritage Site. Angers has all the best aspects of French culture, charming chateaux and famous wines. Cointreau liqueur has been made in Angers since 1849.
• Saumur – home of the National Riding School and the famous Cadre Noir. Saumur boasts no fewer than 54 national monuments. Home to Saumurs' famous sparkling wine.
• Rennes – capital of Brittany. Devastated by fire in 1720, modern Rennes is built around an historic core and boasts smart shops, fine restaurants, museums etc.
• Le Mans – famous for its 24 hour motor race and museum.

How to get here

The houses are within easy reach of the ferry ports of St.Malo (1.5 hours) Cherbourg (3.5 hours) and Caen (3 hours). Nantes, Angers and Rennes have their own airports and are each under an hour away. Flights from Stansted to Dinard, (1.5 hours) are also popular. Car hire is available at all airports.
