Home description

Domaine Lavie is situated 1 km from the delightful and picturesque spa town of Salies de Béarn in the far southwest of France. The Béarn is a wonderful unspoilt area with beautiful countryside, rich in history, with well-preserved chateaux, fantastic food and wine with the Pyrenees and Spain on one side and the Atlantic beaches on the other.

For culture, sophistication and glamour visit the capital Pau or the coastal towns of Biarritz, Bayonne and St. John de Luz with their fabulous Atlantic beaches for surfing and water sports. During the spring, summer and autumn 'Fetes' are held in almost all the towns and villages, lasting from one to three days they are an experience not to be missed! Colourful markets offering the best of local produce take place weekly. The Pyrenees for walking, bird watching and skiing in winter are 1 hour away.

There are wonderful rivers for fishing, canoeing and kayaking close by. Spain and Lourdes can be reached in approximately 1 hour. Ryanair flights daily to Biarritz and Pau.

Accomodation

Domaine Lavie is a lovely old manoir set in 7 acres of garden, orchard and woodland. Our aim is to provide a relaxing comfortable holiday all year around in accommodation furnished and equipped to a high standard. Throughout the gardens there are seats on which to sit and read or just admire the view.

There is a 14 x 8 metre floodlit swimming pool. The pool area is extremely attractive with views over the hills and fields towards the Pyrenees, it has a large terrace with plenty of sunbeds and parasols to give shade on very hot days. In the evenings the underwater and surround lighting add to the very calm and peaceful ambience. The five Bearnaise cottages provide the accommodation detailed below.

About the location

Locally, Salies de Béarn with its famous Thermal Baths, restaurants, golf course (there are numerous championship courses in this area) and tennis courts is a perfect place to stroll in, with some attractive seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings and some houses standing on stilts on the bed of the River Saleys. The town has a good supermarket and shops to provide for your entire needs. 

Biarritz, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz, Pau and St. Sebastian are all within 1 hour. The nearest beaches are 35 minutes and the Pyrenees Mountains just over the hour.

How to get here

Please contact the owner for full directions.  Ryanair flights into Biarritz and Pau - (both around three quarters of an hours drive away) daily from Stanstead and many regional airports including Bristol, Ireland. Domaine is situated 1 km from outskirts of Salies de Bearn. Many other flights into Bordeaux and Toulouse both 2 hrs away. TGV from Paris to Orthez, Dax and Puyoo.
