Home description

This spacious house is only 35 minutes from Cherbourg quietly located in charming coastal Barfleur. A sandy bathing beach is located virtually on the doorstep and the bustle of the small fishing port with its quay side bars and cafés is only a 100m walk. The house is built in the local stone of pink granite and the accommodation surrounds a private enclosed and secure courtyard garden with all the principle accommodation facing south. The house provides a safe, tranquil environment untroubled by noise. Rue Paul Placide is a "no through" road - the sea is at the end of the road. 

The house accommodates a party of eight easily - ideal for two families coming together, but for a couple having a quieter time away the house layout makes for an equally comfortable stay.

The living room

Ground Floor

• Kitchen - spacious and fully equipped with a gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, fridge-freezer, sink, all cooking requisites and a washing machine.
• Living room - with large casement windows and French doors onto the garden equipped with two sofas, chairs and a large dining table. There is an open fireplace in addition to oil central heating.
• Games Room - with table tennis table.
• Shower and Separate WC
• Bedroom 1 - with double bed, handbasin and bidet.

An easy rising staircase leads to the

First Floor

• Bedroom 2 - with double bed.
• Bedroom 3 - with two single beds.
• Bedroom 4 - is reached via a separate steep staircase from the games room and has two single beds.
• Bathroom - bath with shower over, handbasin WC and bidet

All rooms are equipped with radiators. We also have a selection of with books, videos and board games.

The garden is pleasantly laid out to lawn and also has patio; ideal for sunbathing and having meals outside. It is fully enclosed giving privacy and providing a safe environment for young children.

About the location

Barfleur’s charm and beauty merits its status of 'Les Beaux  Villages de France' - one of the most beautiful villages in France. The Department of la Manche in Normandy has a second such renowned village; the world famous Mont-St -Michel.

Barfleur is steeped in history and the picturesque town is a popular destination for the French for their holidays and has a tourist office to help plan your holiday. There are miles of sandy beaches in both directions. This is the place for a really idyllic bucket and spade holiday (whether or not with children!), the ideal place to relax and enjoy the French way of life. Out of season there is a warm welcome from the open fire after invigorating walks on the beach. Cycling sailing and horse riding are all available nearby. Just inland is the Normandy 'bocage' country with undulating fields and orchards.

Within only a short walk from the house are all the day to day shops including boulangerie, a butcher and greengrocers as well as a small supermarket, post office and bank. This area of France is renowned for its sea-fare and the countryside around is devoted to farming and market gardening. Besides those in Barfleur itself there are many good restaurants within in a short distance.  Restaurants, together with street markets, give plenty of opportunity to enjoy this abundance of fresh local produce. Barfleur has a regular weekly produce market.

Cherbourg is the largest town on the peninsular and there are many places of interest worth a visit: Bricquebec, Ste-Mere-Eglise, Portbail, St-Lo and further afield Bayeux and Mont-St-Michael. The World War II landing beaches are all accessible to the south. From Carteret on the West Coast, there is a ferry to Jersey.
