Champ de Reves - Charming 18th Century Farmhouse

La Plaine de Limage is a 200 year old stone farmhouse set in two and a half acres of garden and meadow. The house is approximately 30 minutes from medieval cities such as Poitiers, Niort (capital of Deux-Sevres) and Angeloume where boutiques, galleries and gourmet restaurants abound. There are many chateaus of interest if you are on the wine trail.  Theme parks such as Futurescope are approximately 35 minutes away while Les Vallee des Singes, a 15 hectare conservation park where more than 350 species of primates live in a natural habitat, is only 20 minutes from the house. Fifteen minutes walk from the house to a lake with fishing, cafe, mini golf and a children's playground. A 10 minute drive will take you to St Macoux, an excellent swimming area for the whole family. The village of Sauze Vaussais is a 10 minute walk from the house.

The house is charming and comfortable and well furnished with all the comforts of a home away from home. The bedrooms are spacious and attractive with lovely views from each room. Oak beamed ceilings and polished wood floors add to the ambience of the house.

During the summer months brocantes (markets) are held at surrounding villages every weekend where there is every chance you will pick up a treasure to take home. If you are into music Melle has its jazz festival and Cognac a blues festival. Not to be missed from August 9 - 15 is the annual International Folk Festival at Confolens. With steel bands on street corners to flamenco in bars, Confolens's International Folkore Festival offers a chance to travel the world in a day. The picturesque town is packed with international performers and some 300,000 visitors during the colourful celebrations.with performances and workshops from around the world.

Champ de Reves

Ground Floor

• Kitchen/Dining room - has an atmosphere of rustic charm with flagstone floors, lime-stone walls, oak beamed ceilings and a fireplace. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, ovenware, crockery, cutlery and glasses. There is a 4 ring gas hob with an electric grill and gas oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and electric jug.
• Lounge - is comfortably furnished with a 2 and 3 seater lounges and armchairs, television (SKY) DVD player and a CD stereo system. There are adults and children's games, and an extensive library of books available for borrowing during your stay.  CD's and DVD's are available on loan by request from the owner.
• Laundry facilities include: automatic washing machine, indoor and outdoor clothes lines, iron and ironing board.

First Floor

• Bedroom 1 - double oak-carved bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, a matching oak-carved amoir and chest of drawers. Stunning views across the rolling countryside.
• Bedroom 2 - double bed, bedside tables and reading lamps, wardrobe, drawers and a desk. Great views.
• Bedroom 3 - double oak-carved bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, a matching French amoir and drawers. Lovely views to the west of the house of walnut trees, fields and sunsets.
• Bedroom 4 - has two single beds, bedside lamps, drawers, desk and inbuilt cupboard. This room has views across the countryside to woodlands and sunflowers in season.
• Bathroom – a  fully tiled bathroom with vanity,  bath, shower and toilet.

The bedrooms are large comfortable rooms with polished wood floors, sofas and armchairs to relax in. Each room has views across the countryside and all rooms have power points and heating.

Second Floor

• Bedroom 5 - large attic style room with 2 bunks and a double bed.
• 2nd Bathroom - fully tiled bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity. There is a washing machine in the bathroom.

Outside

The outdoor entertainment area has a barbecue, dining table and chairs attractively set up by a two hundred year old bread oven and sheltered by large walnut trees providing shade for hot summer days.

There is an above-ground plunge pool approx 3 metres across by 1 metre deep. A sun umbrella with table and chairs is provided next to the pool.

A large lawn area at the front of the house is a great space for frisby, cricket and other ball games.

The owners have a gite at the rear of the house which is separated from the farmhouse and has its own private driveway and parking. The owners will be present for check in and departure and can be called upon for any support or to give local information. All outdoor recreational areas are for the sole use of the farm house.

About Sauze Vaussais in Deux-Sèvres, Poitou Charentes

La Plaine de Limage is a perfect base to explore the surrounding French countryside, villages, towns, cities and historic sites because of its central position. Situated in the Deux Sevres which borders the fascinating Vienne and Charente it is  only 10 to 15 minutes by car to historic villages such as Melle with its underground gold mines and beautiful Roman church, Selle Sur Belle and its Abbey, the medieval villages of Civray, Vivonne, Chef Boutonne and Chateau Jarvazay just to name a few. There are excellent restaurants, markets and brocantes in the area and during the summer months a variety of festivals.  Other areas of interest are as follows:

• Poitier (30 mins) A historic university town with great shopping and restaurants only 10 minutes from Futurescope, France's answer to the Epcot Centre and Europe's premier image theme park on the cutting edge of cinema technology.
• Niort (30 mins) The capital of Deux Sevres, this lovely town offers excellent shopping for the fashion conscious, made more enjoyable on the safety of pedestrian streets bordered with bronze dragons. Niort market is a must to visit.
• Cognac (40 mins) best known for the production of world-renown fine brandy. In Cognac visit the famed Cognac Museum and the houses of Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin and Otard. Go to Jarnac to visit Courvoisier.
• Angouleme (30 mins) rich in art with many fine 17th and 18th century streets to wander. Visit the CNBDI (The National Comics and Image Centre), taste chocolate at Chocolaterie Letuffe and go to the working paper museum. Excellent cafe scene. Free concerts in the Council Chambers' courtyard during summer months. Angouleme a favorite place to visit for us.
• La Rochelle (60 mins) A lively and vibrant port with arcaded back streets and markets, trendy cafes, the 3 towers, museums and Aquarium de La Rochelle. Lots of clean beaches and boats out to the "Islands of Tranquility" Re, Aix and Oleron.
• Confolen (30 mins) a charming town that is a ‘must’ to visit, especially in August when the world famous international festival is on for a week every year.
• Bordeaux (90mins) This vibrant and cultured city with wonderful shopping on pedestrian-only streets is a fantastic day out. A brand new electric tram system to take you around the sights of the city. Parking is easy and cheap. Visit the Opera. Cuisine from all over the world.
• Dordogne. It is possible to make day trips to the Dordogne to visit places like Sarlat and Rocamadour.
• Tours. The fantastic city of Tours is only an hour away.

Should you prefer to just stay and relax at La Plaine de Limage there is a great choice of restaurants nearby.  Whether you want local French cuisine, seafood that’s unbelievably fresh, ferme auberge, traditional English food, steak houses, cafes or pizzerias, with reasonable prices and top quality cuisine you wont be disappointed.

How To Get To Sauze Vaussais in Deux-Sèvres, South West France

Rail: From the UK the Eurostar is available from London Waterloo to Lille or Paris changing for TGV links to Poitiers and Ruffec. From Paris there is a train to St Saviol just 10minutes from the house.

Air: Ryanair offers daily low cost flights from London Stansted to Poitiers, Angeloune, Limoges or La Rochelle. Poitiers is the closest airport..

Angeloume is the next closest and after that Limoges and La Rochelle. Cars can be hired at these airports.
