Two 'Four Star' Villas in Seaside Town

These villas have been awarded 4 stars by the French Tourist Authorities  (2012 regulations)

The two villas are situated in the town of La Palmyre along one side of the Baie de Bon Anse on the Arvert Peninsula in Charente Maritime. It is a pretty seaside town with miles of adjacent sandy beaches, a thriving market on Wednesday and Sunday mornings and a lively craft market on a Wednesday night in the summer season, one of the best zoos in Europe and many easily accessible restaurants.

Both the houses are classified by the French Tourist Authority as meeting their 4 Star standard, which means they are fully equipped to a very high standard and regularly inspected to ensure this standard is maintained.

The houses are situated in a small private housing development of 30 houses yet within a few hundred metres of the town centre and about 400 to 500 metres from the closest beach. The estate has traffic barriers at each entrance so there is no through traffic and therefore no problems with parking. Each house also has a private garage.

The houses come equipped with everything required to ensure you have the perfect holiday, the owners even provide all the bedding and towels (although the owners ask that you bring your own beach towels).

Both houses are insulated to the highest standards and have full thermostatically controlled central heating which may be required in the cooler winter months. Not that this will be required in the summer as this area is famed for its warm sunny microclimate.

Safety is one of the owners priorities; therefore each house has smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and childproof locks on windows.

Due to the requirements of the 4 star standard the houses are both equipped for the normal capacity of the house - 6 persons. This means that all crockery, glassware, cutlery etc has to be sufficient to provide for double the normal capacity of the house. In this case, sufficient for 12 persons.

The owners can supply a cot for babies if they are given some notice and of course should you have any other queries they would be delighted to send you further pictures or information on the houses.

Holiday Accommodation at Les Pins

This house is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with three houses. It has a small garden at the rear and a large private patio area at the front – which is surrounded by a 2.5 metre wall, which ensures total privacy. The patio area has tables and chairs for outdoor eating and of course sun-loungers for relaxing in the sun.

The owners recommend the house is suitable for 6 persons but by using the sofa bed in the lounge 8 could be accommodated.

Ground Floor

  • Kitchen/dining area - is spacious with every convenience possible, there is a fridge, deep freeze, dish washer, washing machine, microwave, large oven and all the utensils required. The dining area has a large table for seating 8 persons and has large double French windows opening out onto the garden.
  • Lounge area - complete with television, video recorder and hi-fi system. (the video recorder plays British VHS tapes as well as French video tapes) . The large French windows at one side open out onto the patio and the door at the other side open onto the garden area at the rear of the house.
  • Toilet and cloakroom area.

First Floor

There is lots of storage/wardrobe space for clothes between the three bedrooms.

  • Main bedroom - large room with a king size bed.
  • Double bedroom - large room with a double bed.
  • Twin bedroom - smaller room with two single beds.
  • Bathroom - with a bath/shower, washbasin and toilet.

The whole house is very bright and airy and kept fresh by a silent ventilation system which runs continuously.

About La Palmyre in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

The area is very quiet and surrounded by tall pine trees. The houses were just completed in 2002 and therefore are in perfect condition and bright and airy. The whole estate is landscaped and is very pretty. Few of the houses are used for holiday rentals so most of the people staying in the estate are the private owners of the houses and very friendly - a wonderful opportunity to practice your French! This is not a sprawling holiday complex, rather a quiet pretty place to return to after a day at the beach or exploring the local countryside.

The villas are situated about 600 metres from the nearest beach, a magnificent strech of perfect sand extending for miles in each direction. There is a mixture of very calm bathing within the Baie Bonne Anse to great surfing just two miles up the coast. They are also only 100 metres from the town centre and 200 yards from the market, which is held on Wednesday and Sunday mornings.

There are many magnificent other beaches within 20 minutes drive such as both coasts of the pretty Isle d'Oleron, the newly completed childrens beach at Marennes Plage and in the direction of Royan each little cove has another lovely sandy beach.

How To Get To La Palmyre in Charente-Maritime, South West France

  • The villas are just off the town centre in a quiet private estate
  • The villas are situated about 20 kilometers west of Royan.
  • They are about 2 hours north of Bordeaux airport and 1 hour south of La Rochell airport.
  • It takes about 8 hours drive from Calais and only about 4 hours from St. Malo.
  • If driving down take the A10 to Saintes and turn off for Royan/Les Mathes and follow the well signed route.
