La Bergerie, a 300 year old farmhouse, renovated and extended by the Architect-owner, is situated on a hillside surrounded by the vineyards and sunflower fields of the Gaillac countryside.

Accommodation detail

The building is beamed throughout and has been renovated to a high standard by local craftsmen with many of the original features having been retained. The flooring is mainly Languedoc terracotta tiles with rugs.

Lower Ground Floor

• Living-room - (23ft. x 15ft.) with inglenook fireplace, settees, TV and French windows opening onto a large terrace.

Ground Floor

• Kitchen/dining area - measuring 23ft. x 18ft. A solid wood refectory table with seating for 8/10 is at the centre of this room with a range of kitchen cupboards in antique pine to one side; for storage there is a large cherry-wood wardrobe. The original brick 'potagère' has been retained as a feature to store wine bottles. The kitchen is equipped with ceramic topped cooker, microwave, large fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. A large inglenook fireplace dominates this room in which has been installed a cast-iron wood-burning stove used during the winter months with the supply of logs kept at the farm.

First Floor

• Bedroom 1 - master bedroom (23ft. x 15ft.) with en suite bathroom /toilet. From the windows can be seen the whole of the valley and the Pyrenees in the distance when the weather is clear.
• Bedroom 2 - furnished with traditional old cherry-wood French farm bed (a double bed)
• Bedroom 3 - furnished with traditional old cherry-wood French farm bed (a double bed)
• Bedroom 4 - has a modern pine double bed and wardrobe.
• Bathroom/toilet - are accessed from the main kitchen/dining area.

The Garden

The French windows of the living-room open onto a terrace with large fixed barbecue and garden table to seat 8. The terrace overlooks the three quarters of an acre of sloping garden surrounded by fruit-bearing trees such as walnut, fig, plum, pear and fir trees.

The swimming pool (measuring 11m. x 5 m.) is surrounded by fir trees for privacy on one side with grass and palm trees on the other. The swimming pool is equipped with underwater lighting and Roman steps. It is run on a salt electrolyser system which reduces significantly the need for chlorine. La Bergerie is situated at the end of a private road next to a working farm which grows primarily vines, but they also have chickens, rabbits, dogs and a small flock of sheep

About the location

The small 11th Century bastide town of Lisle sur Tarn, with its shops and cafes recessed under colonnades, is 5 minutes by car and is the oldest colonnaded town in the south west of France.

The Tarn Valley, being the land of the Cathars, is typified by walled 13th Century villages overlooking winding rivers and undulating vineyards. The medieval cathedral town of Albi is 30 mins. away and the city of Toulouse with its many attractions is 45 mins. by motorway.

How to get here

La Bergerie is 45 minutes from Toulouse Blagnac airport on the motorway straight through to Lisle sur Tarn. From Lisle sur Tarn 10 minutes drive through the vineyards will lead to Lapyriere at the top of a hill, with the house nestling on the hillside having panoramic views over the valley.
