Riverside Château in 6 Acres of Parkland with pool

The Château du Fraissinet is a pretty country house tucked into a valley on the edge of the wild, mountainous Cevennes National Park. The house itself is believed to date from the early 19th century, but the cobbled courtyard and vaulted caves suggest it must be significantly older. The water souce, trickling fresh  from the mountain, is used for the gardens, the animals and to maintain the Bio UV pool.

Guests are welcome to explore the six acres of parkland surrounding the Chateau and to fish or swim in the river which borders the property. Behind the house curves the mountain with its mantel of sweet chestnut, acacia and pine. Deer, beaver, wild boar, buzzards and woodpeckers are regular visitors to the park and guests may spot the blue flash of a kingfisher along the riverbank. Children will enjoy getting to know our friendly donkey and pony and visiting the chickens and ducks.

Although the setting is beautiful and distinctly rural, the Château du Fraissinet is only a two minute walk from a lively bar and a riverside restaurant. Just a short drive away (5km) is the town of La Grande Combe which hosts an excellent twice weekly market offering general goods and local produce. There is also a choice of supermarkets. Alès, with its river, fountains and wide selection of boutiques, cafes and restaurants is 15km away - and parking is practically hassle free even in the summer months.

There are six gites at the Chateau du Fraissinet. All have their own independent entrances and outside terrace area for dining or relaxing in the sunshine. There is a shared laundry room with two washing machines for the use of guests. The barbecue area enables guests to grill steaks and burgers over a wood fire. A table tennis table and ball games area are also provided.

During high season a regular table-d'hôte will be offered enabling you to enjoy a relaxed evening with good food and local wine in the company of fellow guests and your hosts.

Children are welcome and baby sitting may be arranged.

Two bedroomed apartment with terracotta floors throughout. Stairway leads to Theatre garden and the main bedroom which boasts a view down the drive and into the hills beyond. 

Suitable for family with older children or two couples/extended family sharing. Let as a 2 bedroomed unit in high season. Can also be let to a couple out of  season.

About Branoux Les Taillades in Gard, Languedoc Roussillon

This riverside Château lies on the edge of the stunning Cevennes National Park, rich in history yet relatively undiscovered. A good restaurant and a bar are within easy walking distance of the property. and the local town with a choice of supermarkets is just five minutes by car. La Grand'Combe also hosts an excellent twice weekly market selling fresh local produce and specialities.  Fifteen minutes in the car brings you to Ales, capital of the Cevennes, with its fountains, cafés, boutiques and sunshine.

If you tire of relaxing beside the Bio UV pool you can take a dip in the clean water of the River Gardon which borders the property - there are safe, shallow areas where children can paddle and a deeper area with rocks to jump off. Another option is to spend an afternoon at the nearby Lakes of Camboux (2 mins by car). Here you can swim, picnic, buy a snack at the café or maybe hire a kayak and explore the lake by boat. Behind the lakes, the mountains tempt both walkers and nature lovers with birdlife, rivers and medieval towns tucked away in the hills.

To the south the landscape is completely different. This is the Garrigue - hot and dry with vineyards and olive groves. Discover the historic Duchy of Uzès and the Pont du Gard - the spectacular Roman Aqueduct that took water into Nîmes. Or visit Nîmes itself with its beautifully preserved Roman Arena, excellent shopping and inviting cafés. We are only a little over an hour from the Mediterranean so why not visit the colourful fishing port of the Grau du Roi or the long sandy beaches of l'Espiguette.  Here you will find all the attractions you would expect from the Mediterranean coast.

How To Get To Branoux Les Taillades in Gard, South of France and the Riviera

For those who prefer not to drive, Ryanair offer regular flights from Stansted or Luton to Nimes (50mins) and Montpellier (70mins). Marseille (2hrs) is another option from Bristol and also Gatwick with BA. Flybe have regular flights from Southampton and Exeter to Avignon (2hours).
