Belle Etoile is a stylishly converted 19th century loft apartment which combines rustic charm and contemporary chic. It is set in a peaceful hamlet with stunning views. It has shared use with the owners of an exceptional, solar heated pool which extends to 20 metres for lane swimming. The pool is securely fenced, accessed by a spring-loaded, self-closing, child-proof gate. The pool is open from 5 May to 5 October 2012. The property has wifi internet connection.
The apartment is open plan, spacious and very well equipped to provide all home comforts to a high standard. It has been tastefully renovated with retained original features such as exposed stonework and beams; it is in a truly peaceful location and it has outstanding panoramic views from its private garden, the pool and from the principal rooms. There is a private adjoining field which is available for ball games, equipped with a goalpost; The relatively traffic-free roads and gentle terrain make this an ideal area for walking and cycling. Four adult bicycles are provided. There are swings, a slide and ride-on toys in the garden.
The loft apartment has two large, ensuite double bedrooms, one with an additional single bed; each bathroom has a walk-in shower, washbasin and lavatory and one has a bath also. There is a wood-burning stove and electric heating for year-round use. All beds are full size and can be used by any combination of adults and children totaling 5, plus 2 cots for infants. A comprehensive range of baby and toddler equipment and furniture is available. Belle Etoile is much more than a holiday home, it is a true home from home.
There is a utility room with washing machine and a further bathroom with shower and toilet . This area is shared with the owners.
The private garden is southwest facing, with outstanding panoramic views of gentle, tree-covered hills, red-roofed farms and, in June and July, sunflower slopes. It is equipped with table, chairs, parasol, a barbecue and outdoor lighting.
The luxury 20 metre pool is solar heated. Wide steps lead into the pool from a patio area equipped with cushioned sunloungers. Guests have use of the pool from 10 am - 7 pm. The pool is securely fenced with a self-closing child-proof gate.
There is ample off-street parking.
Belle Etoile is on the Charente/Dordogne border in the peaceful hamlet of Isle where hollyhocks abound from June to September. The nearby village of Ronsenac, which can be reached by footpath, has a lively cafe/bar, a well-equipped children's play area, sports field, tennis court and post office.
Just 3 kms away, 5 minutes by car, 15 minutes by bike, is the larger village of Villebois-Lavalette with a Knights Templar chateau, excellent supermarket, restaurants and bar, tourist office and library, both with internet connection, plus a good range of shops and services; there is a produce market in the 17th century covered market square on Saturdays.
The hilltop city of Angoulême, with its vibrant cafe society and good shops is 25 kms away.
There is a lovely manmade riverside beach at Aubeterre, 25 minutes by car.
There is a wide range of cultural and traditional village events on locally throughout the year, please ask for details of what is on at the time of your visit.

This is an idyllic French rural setting and the converted loft at Belle Etoile is the ideal place from which to enjoy it. The apartment is a stunning space; my partner and I really enjoyed the combination of modern open-plan living in an authentic rustic interior - early evening, one of us would be cooking at one end, whilst the other sat on the balcony reading and sipping wine.
The views from the apartment over the surrounding countryside are magnificent - the property is in a small unspoilt hamlet, so from one side all that is visible are fields, woods and the odd traditional farmhouse. There is a gorgeous village nearby - Villebois-la-Villette - with supermarket, restaurant, chateau, medieval marketplace and a friendly, lively community.
Our biggest problem was tearing ourselves away from the splendid pool (which comes complete with an extension for those of us who need to do serious laps every morning, even on holiday) and the lovely garden.
We'll be back.

We had an excellent holiday in your apartment. We loved discovering the local area on bikes - very accessible even for the 'not so fit' - and returning to the pool with its glorious views over the local countryside. Good bird life too!
Your style and understanding of what makes a very comfortable home - enough glasses and cutlery, good books, efficient wood burning stove and efficient showers ensured we had a really good break. Thankyou.
