The apartment is situated on the first floor (serviced by a lift) of a stone building located on the edge of the village of La Garde- Freinet.

Behind the building are the spacious and well-maintained grounds including shared swimming pool, tennis court, outdoor lounging area, an orchard and barbecue.

A lovely rural setting yet within easy driving distance of the highlife of the coast and St Tropez.

There is also available a ground floor studio for two available.

• Integral lounge, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is well fitted and equipped, with four burner gas hob, integral oven and microwave and refrigerator. The dining table will comfortably seat four people, and for afterwards there is a comfortable sitting area. There is a log fire as well as central heating.
• Main bedroom with king size double bed, bedside tables dressing table and large wardrobes.
• Full height mezzanine bedroom with double bed and bedside tables and wardrobe.
• Fully tiled bathroom with bath/shower over, bidet, washbasin and toilet.

About the location

The village is situated in the centre of the Massif des Maures, an exceptional site reached by picturesque roads winding through forests of cork oaks and chestnut groves. La Garde Freinet is the gateway to the Gulf of St.Tropez. From the Cross mounted above the village and Fort Freinet (archeological site of the 9th and 10th century) the panorama embraces all the region of the Maures, the sea and coastal plains of the Mediterranean, and inland to Draguignan, the Alps and their snows.

La Garde Freinet is well known for its chestnuts and chestnut cream. A visit to the Confiturerie des Gambades "jam" shop is a must where you can find chestnut jam and chestnut honey.

Over the years many writers and artists have fallen under the spell of La Garde Freinet and it is well worth visiting the local galleries. There are many restaurants in the village (fourteen in full summer) with menus and prices to suite all tastes and budgets. There are two small supermarkets, two bakers and two butchers. There is a post office and a bank, which even has a cash dispenser.

Throughout the year there are in the village various local "fetes" - in spring Fete de l' Europe,  in summer the Bravades and the first week in August the local village fete, which has a full weekend of dances. In the autumn there are the chestnut fairs and the fete for "vin nouveau". Whatever the time of year but mainly in the main season of April to October there is something to see and do. There are many wonderful planned walks around the village and local countryside. If relaxing is more the order of the day what nicer than to sit in one of the cafes or bars and simply watch the world go by.

La Garde Freinet is ideally situated for visiting either the beautiful inland villages of Provence or the livelier coastal area of the Cote d'Azur. Nice airport is by car one and a half hour away, Aix en Provence, Cannes and Antibes about an hour in different directions.

St Tropez is less than half an hour (though in the height of summer this time can vary). It is very much a main attraction with its ocean going yachts, quayside artists and non-stop fashion parade. It is particularly well served with boutiques, a lively twice-weekly market and many restaurants. It can be very expensive to eat out especially near the quayside but there still remain some good relatively cheap places that will suit all tastes. Love it or hate it the St Tropez experience is almost a must for anyone visiting the area.

The resorts of Ste Maxime and Cavalaire are very worth visiting. They are much more "French" in character, lively with good beaches. Port Grimaud situated at the head of the gulf is called the Venice of France. Although relatively modern it has been built in traditional Provencal style. You can hire small boats or take the waterbus to see the village from the water. Again nice beaches are in and around the village.There are some lovely "perched "villages situated close to La Garde Freinet. Ramatuelle, Gassin and Grimaud all within thirty minutes drive.

How to get here

Driving from the main airports take the RD558 from Le Luc [ after leaving the A8 motorway, direction  Nice or Marseilles]  The village of La Garde-Freinet is a 20 minure drive from this motorway exit. There are also flights into Toulon  / Hyeres airport follow the direction for Cogolin then La Garde-Freinet. By train arriving at Les Arcs follow the signs for Aix en Provence but take the RD558 from Le Luc.
