Home description

Le Pech is a tiny hamlet situated on a hillside 2 km from the village of Montgaillard on the edge of the Tarn, halfway between Montauban and Gaillac. The area has a wonderful sunny climate with long hot summers. There is something for everyone in the area, whether you are looking for cultural towns and cities, historical sites, "bastide" villages, forest walks, adventure or sporting activities.

The gîte is unusually spacious, with 180 square metres of living space. It has been luxuriously designed but with comfort, practicality and flexibility in mind. The open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area has picture windows front and back each with a patio area looking out to fantastic views. The swimming pool catches the sun from early morning to spectacular evening sunsets.

Kitchen

Ground Floor

• Passageway - leads through to kitchen with a large linen/toy cupboard and sideboard.
• Kitchen - fully fitted with self-cleaning oven, hob, microwave, automatic washing machine, dishwasher, and fridge/freezer. Breakfast bar with wine storage below and stools. French windows to terrace.
• Lounge - with French windows facing south. Comfortable sofas and wicker chairs, dining table for eight.  TV and DVD player. Stairs to upstairs.
• Shower room - with shower cubicle, washbasin and WC.

First Floor

Upstairs has timber floors throughout the hall and bedrooms, and includes:

• Bedroom 1 (6m by 5m) - double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, mirror, sofa and side table. The sofa converts to a single bed. View of pool and adjoining countryside.
• Bedroom 2 (6m by 6m) - three single beds one of which has a stacking bed below, wardrobe, chest of drawers, mirror and side tables. Panoramic views south.
• Bathroom - large luxury tiled room and comprises a bath with shower, washbasin, bidet and WC, tiled washstand and mirror/shelf unit. Heated towel rail.

Outside

The gîte has its own terraces to front and back, with wooden table and chairs, barbecue and sun loungers, allowing you to choose sun or shade throughout the day or evening. A path leads from the gîte to the swimming pool (11.5m by 5m) with further sun loungers, umbrellas and tables.

With its picturesque hilltop villages and old walled towns, the area is rich in historical sites.

Pretty Villages

Within a 20 km radius of Le Pech you can visit the fortified, or "bastide" villages of Salvagnac, Puycelsi, Bruniquel, and Castelnau de Montmiral. Perched on rocks, they look formidable as you approach, but all have their own charm, and are easily accessible.

Old Towns

• Montauban - is a pink brick built town full of architectural interests. Visit the Ingres Museum or take a trip down the Tarn.
• Gaillac - as well as its famous wine-route, has a historic Sunday market in the old square. It is an easy place to wander round, with lots of squares and cafes.
• Cordes-sur-Ciel - is in a spectacular location, on an isolated hilltop, with Gothic houses, cobbled streets and picturesque shops.
• Albi - on the banks of the Tarn, gives its name to the Albigensian Crusaders when the Cathar princes fought for their independence. It is a city of history and culture with the imposing St Cécile Cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum housing the largest collection of his works.
• Toulouse - the pink city, is renowned for its unique beauty and elegant shops. The Space Museum on the outskirts is a good place to take the family.

The Wine Regions of Gaillac and Fronton

Le Pech is nestled between these two AOC wine regions, both with excellent reputations. Gaillac has some of the oldest vineyards in France. It is said that the Romans introduced wine-making here. The wines of Frontonnais are from the region between Montauban and Toulouse. The area abounds with vineyards for you to visit, or simply enjoy choosing from the great selection at the local supermarkets or the Maison du Vin in Gaillac.

How to get here

The owners will send or e-mail a travel pack when your booking is confirmed. There are direct flights to Toulouse from a number of UK airports. All the major car hire companies operate from Toulouse airport. It takes about an hour to drive to Le Pech.
