Two Rustique Cottages in a quiet hamlet with a shared heated pool

Presented to you by 'Rustique Cottage Holidays' who specialise in the sympathetic renovation of rural French cottages in a 'Rustic' style, emulating times gone by in France, but with modern amenities to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. There is a shared 9 metre heated pool for your enjoyment. The pool is shared with the owners.

Cuckoo Cottage and Pic Cottage  are recently renovated stone built cottages situated in a tiny quaint hamlet known as Fendrement which is approximately 35 minutes drive from the South West coast of Brittany, 1.5 hours drive from St.Malo and approximately 2.5 hours drive from Caen.

The Cottages are surrounded by a landscape of a bygone era, pine woods, watermeadows, ancient watermills and a gently flowing river.Please be aware that the pool is only availabe in  June, July, August and September when owners can maintain it. It is not open the rest of the year. The owners live on site near by and have three dogs who are friendly but any one with dog allergies or dog phobia should not book this accommodation.

Please note that it is a Gite site Only and Caravans, Camper Vans and Tents etc are not normally admitted as we do not have shower blocks or large parking areas and only enough capacity in the Fosse (sewerage system)  for 3 gites. If you have a real need to bring a vehicle other than a car, please can you call us to discuss and we will consider if this is to be permitted and the appropriate charge if this is the case. We reserve the right to refuse permission to Owners of  vehicles other than normal cars, motorbikes and cycles to use our site.  Please call on the phone number below if you wish to discuss this.

Holiday Accommodation at Cuckoo Cottage

Downstairs

• Lounge/dining room/fully equipped kitchen - with a wood burning stove at one end (characteristically rustic in autumn and winter months), cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine and fully equipped kitchen. There is a sofa and other chairs on which to relax. The cottage looks particularly atmospheric at night with candles dotted all over the room! For those chillier nights in front of the woodburner there are board games, cards, a selection of paperbacks, VCR with a small English video library and a DVD player.  Also, a CD stereo and radio. A TV with british programes.
• Bathroom - off the main room which is a converted cider/wine cellar and is very rustic in appearance. It includes a Victoria and Albert double bath/shower, toilet and wash basin. Again, it is very rustic and atmospheric when lit by candlelight.

Upstairs

• Double bedroom - with a double bed in the minstrel's gallery. This room is very charming, having exposed original beams and pine floorboards. (Imagine lying in bed with the pattern of flames from the woodburner below dancing across the beamed ceilings!).

Adjoining Room - Ground Level, with door to kitchen/lounge

• Extra Bedroom with three single beds and more on request. This bedroom is a Barn conversion room with lounge, en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. There is a TV and VCR.  There is a settee and table and chairs for relaxing or playing games, drawing etc. Pool table which can be taken out side in good weather.
• If there are two families , you can rent Pic Cottage (Sleeps 2) and Cuckoo for  5 comfortably and 8 max people so for Max 10 people. (Call or email Mike and Clare for more details on accommodation needs. Phone number and contact form below.
• Garden

The cottage garden is south west facing and full of sun on a Brittany summers day. For your relaxation and enjoyment there are a table and chairs with Parasol for Al Fresco dining, sun loungers for the sun worshippers and Ladies and gents Mountain Bikes with which to explore the local counytruside. Tranquility reigns supreme. Holiday makers have access to a shared 9 m long heated swimming pool with Roman steps one end and a ladder the other end, illuminated in the evening if required, plus sun loungers for relaxing. Bring your own Pool towels. Pool is shared with owners staying in Hoopoe Cottage on site. Shared Table tennis table and bats, balls. Clare and Mike, the owners, can help you with guidance on local area, facilities, walks, cycle rides, local things to do, Pharmacies, Doctors, Dentists, Hospitals information etc.

About St Congard in Morbihan, Brittany

Fendrement is five miles south of the old market town of Malestroit which has very well preserved old quarters with gabled merchant houses of stone and timber and a characteristically French produce market on a Thursday. The old church of St.Gilles is also eye catching, dating back to the 12th Century.

Also five miles away is the beautiful medieval village of Rochefort-en-Terre. This is one of France's most picturesque villages, which has some fabulous medieval architecture, bars, attractive restaurants, a 12th Century church and a castle and a small museum. The village also has pottery, antiquities, brocante and art/craft shops for your holiday gift shopping. In summer the village comes alive with beautiful displays of flowers and in the winter the evening ambiance and mood lighting will transport you back in time many hundreds of years.

The beautiful medieval port city of Vannes is 35 minutes drive away. Vannes has a lovely old port area, shops, Cathedrale St-Pierre, glorious public walled gardens and cobbled streets. There is also a leisure park, Parc du Gulf with amusements, a butterfly farm and an aquarium. Markets are held in the old town every Saturday and Wednesday

There are many sandy beaches a drive away including: Damgan, Penerf, Carnac, Quiberon, Guidel and many others. For those interested in castles and chateaux, there are many of interest including: Chateau de Rochefort en Terre, Chateau de Suscinio, Chateau de Tredion, Josselin, Pontivy etc.
