Delightful Traditional Cottage with Pool

Located in the peaceful hamlet of La Foye de Vinax at the edge of the Forest of Aulnay, this charming, lovingly renovated, 19th century stone-built cottage is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of life and is ideally situated to explore this beautiful and historic region.

Surrounded by fields of wheat and sunflowers, the cottage nestles in its secluded garden with views across the countryside to the forest. The garden is completely enclosed and private, with space to relax, play games and enjoy the pool. You are just ten minutes from the towns of Aulnay and Néré where you will find supermarkets, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.

Easy access to the coast and an array of historic towns and cities. Delight yourself with medieval treasures, chateaux, Romanesque churches and vineyards. Sample local delicacies, fine wines, pineaux and cognac.

Holiday Accommodation at Cottage

Lovingly renovated, the accommodation is all at ground floor level, though there is a step down into the bedroom.

• Main room - this spacious, (35 square metres) open-plan area is enhanced by the vaulted ceiling and oak beams. Exposed Charentaise stonework and the open fireplace, with wood-burning stove, add oodles of character that invites you to unwind and relax.
• Lounge area - is comfortably furnished, including a sofa-bed to sleep two.  An additional single bed or a cot, high chair and stroller are available if you wish.  TV, basic SKY reception, CD/radio, DVD player and a selection of DVD’s are all included.
• Kitchen - is modern and equipped for all your holiday needs, including gas cooker, fridge, microwave/grill, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. There is a freezer in the laundry room. A full set of crockery and cutlery is provided, plus plenty of child-proof items if you need them!
• Dining - enjoy mealtimes in the dining area or dine al fresco on the patio.
• Bedroom - equipped with twin, electronically adjustable beds. Bedside and dressing tables, drawers and a double wardrobe with storage over for your suitcases. Bed linen, duvets and pillows are provided and you’ll find plenty of hangers in the wardrobe.
• Shower room - modern family-sized en-suite shower room. This is also easily accessible to guests using the sofa-bed or there is a second shower room/toilet off the patio. (Please note that the second shower room has cold water only at the moment)

Outside:

• 18ft diameter private pool
• Secluded, south-facing patio and garden equipped with sun-loungers, table and chairs and a barbecue. This is a lovely, sunny area and enjoys views across the fields to the Forest of Aulnay
• Second shower room and laundry room with automatic washing machine and freezer. (Cold water only in these outside rooms)
• Space for up to 3 cars in the private driveway.

About Vinax in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

Charente Maritime is the second sunniest region in France (after Cote d'Azur) with temperatures reaching the high 30's in July and August.

La Foye de Vinax is located about 40 miles inland, east of Rochefort on the Atlantic coast. This enchanting hamlet provides a peaceful and relaxing retreat, yet has the whole of the Poitou Charentes within around an hour's journey.

The Forest of Aulnay, less than a mile away, is teeming with wildlife and is ideal for family picnics, or intrepid adventures. Follow the Boutonne valley with its Romanesque art treasures, vineyards and the loveliest chateau in the region at Dampierre (15 minutes away).

There is an assortment of recreational lakes within a few miles of the cottage for swimming, boating, canoeing and fishing

Some places to visit include:

• St Jean d'Angely - On the Boutonne. Historic town with shops, markets, childrens' play areas, good fishing, water sports and "Atlantis" (modern indoor swimming and leisure centre)
• Cognac - Cognac houses of Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin, Camus and Otard, as well as the parks, river cruises, shops and many restaurants
• La Rochelle - Airport, historic port, marina, aquarium, seafood restaurants, Ile de Rey and the golden sands of the Atlantic coast
• Angoulême - Ancient fortress town on the Charente. Visit its famous chocolate factory and cartoon exhibition
• Poitiers - Airport and Futuroscope, a great family day out
• Saintes - Roman Amphitheatre, masses of history and mini-cruises on the Charente

How To Get To Vinax in Charente-Maritime, South West France

By Ferry

The cottage is within reach of all the channel ports. Even the most distant ports at Calais and Zeebrugge are only a day’s drive away.

By Air

Well serviced with airports frequented by low cost airlines. La Rochelle, Poitiers and Rochefort are all about an hour away. Limoges and Bordeaux are 2 hours away. You will need a car.
