These three cottages comprise a unique opportunity for friends and families to share together in this peaceful, idyllic setting. The hamlet of Ecorsaint is just 45 minutes drive west of Dijon, in the heart of the countryside. The lane at the side of the property passes the old village bread oven attached to the cottage.There are endless glorious walks from here where you can view the birds, wildlife and in the springtime, a wealth of wild flowers. It's almost possible to imagine life before the noise of trains and aeroplanes. A perfect spot for the poet, artist and bird watcher. There are no shops or cafes in the hamlet but both are just a 10 minutes drive away.

The pool is set behind the vegetable garden with wonderful views across the valley. This is a newly installed, heated pool measuring 12m x 6m and set beyond the garden area away from the houses therefore affording privacy to those swimming. There are walk-in steps and the pool is graded from the depth of 1m at the shallow end reaching 2m at the deep end. The temperature is regulated to reach 26°. There is a new poolhouse with changing room, shower, wc (and steam room being built and hopefully will be up and running for next year) and includes an open "summer" kitchen with sink, fridge, barbecue, table and chairs. There are reclining chairs around the pool area.

Maintenance and cleaning is regularly carried out. The garden is also maintained and there is plenty of space for children to run about. The village is very small and safe for children.

Accommodation detail

A few steps up to the porch is the entrance and where a bench has been situated for peaceful and shaded rest, hidden partially by the wisteria climbing up the trellis!

• Large double aspect kitchen/salon with views of the garden to the front of the house. The kitchen is fully equipped with ample storage and work units, gas cooker with extractor fan, toaster, microwave and fridge. There is full central heating and a large open wood burning stove (wood provided), a 3-seater sofa and armchair, bookshelves and coffee table.
• Large bathroom with sunken bath, an old stone slab sink and one of the best open showers in the world! There are deep storage shelves and a separate WC.

Open stairs, under which is housed the washing machine, lead from the bathroom area up to:

• Mezzanine bedroom which has oak beams and is furnished with twin beds, bedside unit, lighting, drawers and clothes hanging space. There is a window to the side of the house overlooking the lane which passes up the hill, and a velux window in the roof.

First floor

• Large beamed, sunny bedroom with double bed, clothes hanging space, drawers and a sink with an overhead light and shaving socket. This room has two velux with blinds, overlooking the garden and views across the countryside.

About the location

Semur en Auxois is an exceptionally attractive and impressive medieval town with ramparts, cobbled streets, shops, cafes and restaurants (20 mins drive).

Alise ste Reine/Alesua is a famous fortified town, the scene of the last stand of the Gauls against Caesar. Roman site and museum, two restaurants and one cafe (10 mins drive).

Flavigny sur Ozerain is a mediaeval village with fortified gates and a religious and architectural heritage. Wander around the ancient narrow streets and visit the Carolingian crypt and existing abbey. Flavigny is also famous for its production of the well known aniseed balls and sweets. End up at La Grange to be fed by the local farmers with produce from their own gardens and farms (open 1st July-31st August). It is possible to walk to Flavigny from Ecorsaint in one and a half hours. Flavigny is more recently famed for the making of the film "Chocolat" (5 mins drive).

Abbey de Fontenay was founded by St Bernard and is a perfect example of a Cistercian Abbey, remarkably preserved (World Heritage UNESCO) (20 mins drive).

Dijon is the capital of Burgundy and the seat of the infamous dukes. Spend a day wandering around the many attractive streets and visit the Musee des Beaux Arts (closed Tuesday) (45 mins drive).

Winetasting in the famous city of Beaune and the vineyards which are under one hour away. Details of all local restaurants and vineyards are held in the cottages.
