Les Cerisiers, a charming, spacious, 3 bedroomed well equipped gite, is uniquely positioned on the western edge of the bustling village of Quarré-les-Tombes in the Morvan Natural Park. Euan and Liz K said, "Splendid location! Splendid gite!"  You can enjoy delightful views across the Morvan hills and spectacular sunsets yet still be within strolling distance of all the excellent facilities of the village including a boulangerie, chocolatier, butcher, market, bars and restaurants.  Noel and Ruth M said, "Excellent gite in a superb village.  Boucherie not to be missed."

The Morvan truly has the best France can offer. The Morvan was the heart of Celtic civilisation. So as well as fantastic places of historical, cultural and architectural interest such as Vezelay, Avallon, Bibracte, Bazoches, not to mention Dijon and Beaune nearby, there are over half a million acres of rolling hills covered with beautiful forests interspersed with green pasture lands, fast running rivers and peaceful lakes. The gite that offers you all you will need for a fabulous holiday!  Val and Don C said, "Beautiful gite, comfortable and relaxing. We had a brilliant week."

There are two large ground floor rooms.

• Le Salon a huge room, 9.5m x 4.5m, with a picture window and patio doors overlooking the south west facing private courtyard. The room is open plan with a large kitchen area at one end with dishwasher, combination oven (microwave, oven and grill all in one), separate oven and hob, fridge-freezer, toaster, cafetiere, electric kettle and lots of crockery, glasses and dishes. There is a large dining table, comfortably seating 6, sideboards (look inside for the selection of games) coffee tables and a sofa and armchair for relaxing. A wood burning stove makes the room extremely cosy in the cooler seasons. There is additional electric heating if required.
• Le sejour, a beautiful sitting room, 5m x 5m, with a traditional flagstone floor, huge Burgundian open fireplace, wood ceiling and comfy seating. French doors overlook the charming courtyard. There is a video player– bring your own favourites or risk ours!
• Shower room, a good sized room with loo, basin, and a large corner shower that you can move around in without bashing your elbows! Electric heating keeps it warm and snug when needed.
• Utility room with washing machine, ample drying space and room to house the walking boots and coats. In case you feel the need, there is an ironing board and iron.

Upstairs

• Master bedroom with a really comfy king sized bed. Of course there are bedside tables, lights, rugs and a spacious wardrobe with shelving, lots of hanging spaces and hangers!
• Twin bedroom with two twin beds, wardrobe, bedside table – all that you'd expect really.
• "Bunk Room" with full sized wooden bunk beds and a chest of drawers.

All bedrooms are cool in the warm/hot months and snug in the winter with electric heating. and are provided with light duvets for the warm nights and warm ones for the cooler nights.

The courtyard is planted with beautiful roses, shrubs, bulbs and flowers. It is secluded, south west facing outdoor room that allows you to enjoy your meals and relax overlooking the garden and Morvan hills. The sunsets are spectacular. There is a central decked area with table, chairs and parasols. The rest of the large garden is laid to lawn with mature cherry, peach, pear and apple trees. Help yourself to anything that is ripe. There is a double garage that houses a pool table and table football game for the enthusiasts.

About the location

Quarré-les-Tombes, is a lively village situated on the top of a hill dominated by a 16th century church. Surrounding the church are a large number of sarcophagi, the origin of which is still a mystery and which gives the village its name.

Les Cerisiers is the last house on the western side of the village. Not being overlooked by other houses, you can enjoy delightful views across the Morvan hills yet still be within a 2 minute stroll of all the excellent facilities of Q.L.T. No need for the car.

We think that enjoying the local food and wine is an essential of the holiday and Q.L.T. offers a sumptuous selection of goodies.

The superb "boulangerie" offers a great selection of breads (the brown walnut bread is lovely if you like that kind of thing) pastries, fantastic fruit tarts and gateaux and a brilliant selection of homemade jams, chutneys and preserves. Check out the "oignon" chutney. Yummy!! Expect to queue – it is very popular.

Next door is the award winning "chocolatier" - a sight to behold especially at Easter. Need we say more -indulge! An excellent delicatessen serves local cheeses, gorgeous pates, cooked meats, oils and olives. Great lunchtime food with crusty french bread. The "boucherie" offers a full range of high quality meat. Not cheap but very good. Order your freshly spit roasted chickens from him. On Sundays and Tuesdays there is a small produce market with salamis, cheeses, eggs, wines and home-grown fruit and vegetables. Two small grocers provide all your everyday needs like milk and loo rolls! Of course, their wine department occupies a large part of the shop.

Eating and drinking in Q.L.T.

There are two excellent restaurants, "Le Morvan" and "Le hotel du Nord". Between them they offer you an opportunity to relish the great food and wine of Burgundy with prices for a 3 course meal from 15 – 45 Euros a head. Check out the "crème brulee" at "Le Morvan" – exquisite!

Several traditional bars offer beer, wine, coffee and "tabac" and the chance to do the "sitting on the pavement watching the world go by" scenario. What are holidays for?

The Morvan area in the region of Burgundy

There is a wealth of cultural, historical and architectural places of interest, numerous opportunities for outdoor activities and food and wine to delight. Places to visit include:

• Vezelay - classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this medieval town with its fortifications is dominated by the Basilica of St. Madeleine (12th-13th Century) which is considered to be a masterpiece of Romanesque art for the beauty of its architecture and the exceptional quality of its sculptured decorations.
• Bibracte - an ancient city with many Celtic remains.
• Bazoches - here a medieval castle was transformed into a military garrison by Marchal de Vauban, Louis XIV's military engineer.
• Semur-en-Auxois - dominated by big drum towers and by Notre-Dame, which is one of the best examples of Gothic art in Burgundy, this medieval town with its four gates and narrow streets is a must.
• La Pierre qui Vire - a Benedictine abbey with a standing stone which apparently used to turn around on its base.
