The House 'En Sers' is situated on a hilltop in the middle of the countryside and has wonderful views of the surrounding farmland and fields. It is set in half an acre of land with private road leading to it and no immediate neighbours.

The hamlet of Appelle has 52 inhabitants, a traditional French Mairie and a small church. This small community has its root in the Languedoc and as such prizes itself in the quality of its local produce. The local bakery is renown in the area for its organic breads and pastries (it opens on Tuesdays and Fridays), other produce sold locally include home produced 'Cassoulet' and duck liver pate.

The mature gardens have flower beds, a small orchard and grass lawns. In the hot summer days, you will enjoy the shade from the large pine tree and oak tree. Under the oak tree is the favourite place for eating, relaxing and chatting.

Ground floor

The ground floor comprises:

• A large hall - with galleried landing.
• A cloakroom.
• A large dining room - with fireplace and exposed beams.
• A fully equipped kitchen - with fridge-freezer, built-in oven, hob and dishwasher.
• A very large lounge - with fireplace, television, VCR and a piano.

First floor

On the top floor, there are five bedrooms:

• One large room - with a double bed and en-suite shower room.
• One double - with king size bed.
• One double - with twin beds.
• One single - with a small double (120cm).
• One large bedroom/study with a small double bed (110 cm).
• One family bathroom with twin basins, large bath and WC.

Each room has ample wardrobes and storage space.

Private grounds

The pool is a good size for swimming (11 x 6m) and the water is cleaned with a salt chlorinator making it much more pleasant for the swimmers as it does not use any harmful chemicals and makes it much easier for maintenance. It is an ideal spot to watch the sunset and later on...the stars.

About the location

Local food markets

The nearest town of Pylaurens is only 5 minutes away by car (5 kms).

It enjoys all amenities including a supermarket (Shoppi), a chemist, two doctor's surgeries, newsagents, bars and restaurants, even a tourist office.

The market is held on Wednesdays in the main square, where you can buy lost of fresh farm produce. On Saturdays, there is a larger market in the medieval town of Revel (10 minutes away) which is a must if you want to sample the locally produced vegetable and fruit, cheeses, pates, salamis and wines. It has only become famous thanks to two-Michelin-star chef John Burton Race in his book and TV series, 'French Leave' as it is his local market as well.

Historical places

For historical visits, the medieval fortress of Carcassonne is something not to miss, as well as the cities of Albi, and its cathedral, Cordes and its cobble stones streets, Saint Felix de Lauragais, Castres with its riverside dwellings and the ancient city of Toulouse with red brick architecture.

Shopping

The region is rich in antiques and a fair takes place mid-summer in the town centre.

All copper and pottery crafts can be found in the village of Durford, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, near Revel.

Restaurants

A local restaurant in Puylaurens, 'Le Chateau' where you will enjoy regional cuisine in a wonderful setting with panoramic views of the Pyrennees and surrounding area. The restaurant also has the use of a pool if the children get fed up sitting at the table.

In Soreze, 'Le Tournesol' restaurant offers French cuisine in a traditional setting and 'Les Marronniers' in the hamlet of Viterbe is renowned in the area for its fine cuisine.
Castres has a wealth of gourmet restaurants, including Algerian cuisine.

How to get here

The hamlet of Appelle is situated between Cuq-Toulza and Puylaurens in the Tarn 'department'. From the 'Nationale 126' between Toulouse and Castres, take the road indicated to Appelle, Lacroisille on the left hand side about 5 kilometres after Cuq-Toulza. The signpost is opposite the turnoff for Pechaudier on the right hand side.

Once on this small road (D44), proceed for one and half kilometres until you reach a bridge. Before the bridge, you will see two single track roads, one to your right and one ahead of you sign-posted 'En Sers'. Take this one and follow it till the end and take the left turning before going up the hill and finding the property at the end of the road.
