Five Tastefully Renovated Gîtes with Pool.

Le Manoir de La Foye was formerly a Cognac distillery which was built in the 1820s, but has now been converted into this delightful complex. The Charentaise properties have been superbly renovated to a very high standard whilst retaining all of their original charm and atmosphere. Le Gite de Portail, La Ferme, Le Gîte du Puits, L'Ecurie and La Grange, are approached via a private driveway. Within the grounds are gardens with mature trees, a walnut orchard and a swimming pool. The stone Gîtes are designed to provide year-round comfort in a supremely peaceful hamlet, well off the beaten track.

Located in Charente-Maritime, the second sunniest region of France, Le Manoir de La Foye is in the rual hamlet of  La Foye de Vinax. It is within 10 minutes drive of Néré which has all the necessary amenities. The area is surrounded by vineyards, extensive fields of wheat and sunflowers as well as the magnificent Forest of Aulnay. The region is renowned for its Cognac, Pineau, seafood, especially oysters, cheese and friendly people. A gloriously tranquil, unspoilt setting, perfect for French country living and a relaxed, refreshing holiday.

The Grounds

  • Spacious gardens with magnificent trees offering plenty of shade and extensive views over open fields.
  • Ample car parking.
  • Each gîte has their own outside garden furniture with large umbrellas.  Gas barbecues are also available.
  • Full use of the swimming pool which overlooks a walnut orchard. The pool area has extensive terraces with sunloungers and is well located in a very secluded spot that benefits from sunshine all day long.
  • Laundry room fitted with washing machines, tumble dryer and outside drying lines.
  • Shared Summer kitchen with charcoal barbeque and communal seating.
  • Salle de Jour with a DVD, Video and book library.
  • A communal Table Tennis table.
  • Hot Tub (For use when the pool is not in commission)

With the option of full central heating these properties are perfect places to stay at any time of the year. Good quality bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. Guests are requested to supply their own pool/beach towels.

PPPS Our second week saw excellent weather, but an extremely dirty and scruffy gite, we had to clean it on the first day! Not all English people have your high standards.

Holiday Accommodation at Le Gite du Portail - Sleeps 4

This lovingly renovated stone cottage has been modernised recently to a very high standard and offers spacious accommodation for up to four people. Le Gite du Portail has very thick walls making it beautifully cool in summer.

Downstairs

  • Fully equipped kitchen with tiled floor, plenty of storage, gas hob, oven dishwasher, fridge & freezer microwave.
  • Comfortable and spacious lounge/dining room with sofas, armchairs, dining table and chairs. An attractive fireplace (not working) completes the picture.

Upstairs

  • One double bedroom, which is approx 6x5m, with a vaulted ceiling and a large king size bed, bedside tables, and ample storage space. There is an en-suite shower room with hand basin and WC
  • One twin bedroom, with two single beds, bedside tables, a chest of draws and a cupboard.
  • Both bedrooms are very comfortable and benefit from fitted carpeting.
  • Modern bathroom, well-appointed with full size bath and separate shower, a hair dryer and ample hot water.

With the option of efficient gas-fired central heating Le Gîte du Portail is a perfect place to stay at any time of the year.

About Vinax in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

The main towns in the region are: St. Jean D'Angély, Cognac, Saintes, La Rochelle, Niort, Chef Boutonne,  Angoulême and Poitiers (Futuroscope).

Le Gîte du Puits, La Ferme and La Grange are three of five gîtes at Le Manoir de La Foye. They are a few minutes drive from Néré with a Bistrot and Bar which is known for its excellent food and friendly atmosphere. There is also a boulangerie, butcher, chemist, bank and a Co-op.

Aulnay is only 15 minutes by car and has an Intermarché supermarket and a bustling town centre with bars, restaurants, banks a Tourist Information and a weekly market. Aulnay Church is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Monument and is regarded as one of the top ten Romanesque churches in France. Just a short journey in any direction one finds quaint villages and and towns that support shops, markets, and restaurants. The Atlantic beaches and La Rochelle, Royan and Rochefort are just over an hours drive away.

How To Get To Vinax in Charente-Maritime, South West France

The Gîtes at Le Manoir de La Foye are within easy reach of the A10 autoroute (junction 33 & 34) giving full access to the Channel ports.

St Malo is only just over 4 hours drive and just over an hour from La Rochelle (airport) Poitiers (aiport, TGV) and Angouleme (Airport TGV).

This gite property was of the highest standard of any that we have stayed in on the many holidays we have taken in France. It was so good that we have booked again to go next year. We were very lucky with the weather and thus made great use of the pool. We were also very lucky with the guests staying in the other gites as we all got on very well, and all the children got together in the evenings to play whilst we enjoyed a glass of wine or three!!

Our gite was very well equipped with things like new dishcloths, hand soap, cooking oil etc provided which is a novelty as usually you arrive in places and there is nothing. The owners organise a BBQ that everyone can take part in once a week if they desire which was a great way of meeting the other guests and a night off the cooking!!

The gite complex is fairly rural so it does take a bit of travelling (20mins - 1hr) to get out and about to see things, but it is well worth it knowing that there is such a nice place to come back to in the evenings. All in all we had a great holiday.

We had 2 wonderful weeks at Le Foye in July 2009. Our gite was beautiful and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Nick & Chania were great hosts and provided us with local knowledge & help when needed.The surrounding area was very peaceful - mainly fields of sunflowers ! Planning to return next year as we had such a great time.
