The farmstead is set in L'Age a small farming hamlet on the borders of the départment of La Haute Vienne (87), la Charente (16) and La Dordogne (24) in a locality known as Le Pays des Feuillardiers (the country of the woodcutters). This pretty area has extensive chestnut woods interspersed with many small lakes.

There are 4 charming, individual gîtes each with private gardens and patios. The magnificent landscaped swimming pool is situated away from the gîtes behind two barns providing some shade. The pool and terraces are sunk into the hillside to take advantage of the rural views - a green valley with grazing Limousin cattle, a stream and pond attracting an abundance of birdlife, a lane over a small bridge winding towards the next hamlet and surrounding woodland. The pool and its wide red cedar deck have all day exposure to the sun. There is a pétanque pitch below the pool where one can have a friendly game of boules. A children's robust climbing frame with sandpit and picnic area has been set up in an adjacent field completely separate from the gîtes, also taking in the view over the valley.

All properties are well equipped with china, glassware and cooking utensils, garden furniture and barbecue, books and games. Each has a DVD player. Bed-linen, bathroom and pool towels and tea towels, heating and electricity and cooking gas are included in the prices. Washing machines are available. All properties have central heating making them suitable for winter and Christmas lets. Contact Diana for out of season terms or special rates for booking multiple gîtes. No pets allowed.

Accommodation detail

The Farmhouse which will accommodate two or three people, dates from the 17th Century (1619)  and retains the original features of huge oak beams, wood floors, a period fireplace and a domed, brick bread oven which is still in working order, wood burner, oil central heating.

Lower Ground floor

• Kitchen - the oak fitted kitchen with terracotta tiled floor is in the old bakehouse off a balustraded landing down eight spiralling steps. 

Ground floor

• Lounge - is very spacious with a three piece suite and dining table.

First floor

• Triple bedroom - with a  single bed and an extra large 6'6'' x 6'6'' double bed.
• Bathroom -  is adjacent to the bedroom is a stylish bathroom with W.C. bath and shower.

Outside

There is a grassy courtyard sheltered by a south facing barn festooned with vines and trailing flowers as seen in the picture, whilst the west facing front of the house has a hard terrace and is an ideal spot to watch the evening sun set over the distant woodland.

About the location

There are supermarkets at St Mathieu - 5 miles, Cussac - 6 miles, Piegut - 8 miles, Oradour-sur-vayres - 10 miles and Nontron - 15 miles. NB. Supermarkets are open on a Sunday morning.

The nearest post office and tabac/presse/dépôt-pain shop and boulangerie are 3 miles away in Marval.

How to get here

The rural location of this property makes having a car essential.

Nearest train stations (with car hire from major firms). Limoges at 64km/40 miles and Eurostar direct from Waterloo, London vial Lille to Angoulême (TGV) at 80Kms/50 miles.

The nearest international airport and car hire are in Limoges, 45 minutes from us. There are low cost direct flights with Ryanair to Limoges from Stanstead, Newcastle and Liverpool and with Flybe, Southampton - Limoges direct.

Other international airports are at Paris at 460 km/276 miles and Bordeaux at 200km/120 miles.

Additional price information

Christmas/ New Year - £250.

• The property should be vacated by 10:00 on the departure day.
  New occupants are requested to arrive no earlier than 16:00.
• In all cases a 25% deposit of the total holiday cost is required to secure a reservation, on receipt of which a detailed map will be forwarded to you.
  Cancellations made less than 6 weeks before the reserved date will not have the deposit refunded.
• The accepted currency: English pounds and euros.
