Les Petites Cigognes dates back to the early 18th century and was originally used by mail coaches en route to Paris who would break their journey here to water their horses. The buildings were built in the traditional Touraine style and have been sympathetically converted to offer tastefully furnished accommodation, retaining much of the original character stone and wood work whilst offering all modern conveniences.  Free wi-fi internet is available in all our gites.

Les Petites Cigognes offers you an excellent base for exploring the Loire and her Châteaux whilst staying in the tranquillity in the beautiful Touraine countryside. Whether you are looking to fill every waking moment of your holiday with activities or just relax by the large heated swimming pool, the choice is yours!

The gites are situated just outside the sleepy village of Cussay, which offers a boulangerie, post office and children’s fishing lake. Five minutes travel in either direction will bring you into our neighbouring villages of Descartes and Ligueil, whist within twenty minutes is the historical town of Loches.  There is a wide variety of excellent restaurants locally.

Outside

You will be able to relax on the terrace alongside our large heated swimming pool  (12m x 5.5m, open May to end of September). This area is easily accessed from the rear of the gites and offers you a fully enclosed landscaped area with self-closing gate and alarms for peace of mind for parents with children. The generous terracing allows you plenty of individual space whilst enjoying uninterrupted views and sunshine from the sun loungers as the children amuse themselves in the pool. The pool and children’s play area are contained within the 2 acres of open garden, offering all the family plenty of space for ball games etc.

Barbecue (gas) and garden furniture are provided within the fenced personal garden of each gîte, giving you privacy for your meals.

To the front in the main courtyard is a large boules area, floodlit for nocturnal players, complete with seating and tables for those who wish to enjoy a full evening’s entertainment.

La Colombe is our newest accommodation.  Completed to the same extremely high standard as Le Pluvier and Le Grebe, La Colombe has the charm associated with a modern 2 bedroom property whilst maintaining the key features of the stables from which it has been renovated.  The master bedroom has lovely views across the local countryside.

• Lounge - with wood burner, television, UK satellite TV, DVD player, selection of books and toys
• Double bedroom - with en-suite bathroom

About the location

• Shopping - Descartes' weekly market on Sunday is extremely well visited and that's just the locals! You can choose from a variety of local wines, cheeses, fruits and vegetables and craft stalls. You can even buy fresh hot paella or roast chickens on your way home for an al fresco lunch in your private garden (Mum's idea of heaven!).
• Chateaux - This is an excellent area for chateaux, including Chinon, Loches, Amboise, Azay le Rideau, Chenonceau, Villandry, Langeais, Blois, Chambord, Rigny Ussy (apparently the inspiration for "Sleeping Beauty"), Valencay and Montresor. Some chateaux also perform Son et Lumiere shows during certain evenings of the holiday season.
• Tours - Tours, the Touraine capital city, is full of history and art and the old town boasts cobbled streets and charming medieval buildings. For those of you who like to shop, the new part of the city has plenty of choice.
• Loches - Loches is an extremely pretty town, with dungeons to visit as well as the chateau, busy markets on Saturday and Wednesday and several night markets taking place in August.

Additional price information

• Debit and credit payments are welcome using PayPal
• Minimum stay 4 nights except during July and August
• Changeover day is flexible except July and August, which are Saturdays only
• Arrival from 4pm, departure by 10am (unless otherwise agreed).
• All beds will be freshly changed and ready for occupation and there’s no extra charge. Cot, and high chair will be provided upon request.
• The gîte is available all year. 
• Cooking gas and electricity are included in the price
• Heating is not included in the price.
• As payment is made in advance you should ensure that you have adequate holiday insurance cover in the event of a cancellation.
• Damage deposit to be refunded in part or full.
• Final cleaning service provided at a cost of £40 (45 euros). Please note that this amount will be deducted from the damage deposit if the gite is not vacated in the same condition as upon arrival.
• Last but not least, if you fancy a romantic evening out, we would be happy to arrange babysitting for you.
