About Sempy in Pas-de-Calais, Nord Pas de Calais

Aix-en-Issart is a small village of 215 inhabitants situated on the Bras de Brosne trout river. The rural landscape is dominated by the seven local rivers and their valleys. These rivers meander through open countryside and villages and have created a strong natural and architectural heritage. Country ways and traditions are still strong; this really is 'real France - real close'.

Siteseeing

  • The walled town of Montreuil - Victor Hugo wrote part of Les Miserables here and a son-et-lumiere version is enacted biannually.
  • Hesdin - the injured and dead from the battle of Agincourt were transported to the town hall here.
  • Boulogne - port, old city centre and ramparts, plus shopping.
  • Lots of pretty villages -including Buire le Sec (known as the artists' village. If you visit in the summer, don't miss the giant maze, le Labyrinthe, in a field outside the village).
  • Cristal D'arques - glass factory at St Omer.
  • Desvres - centre of the local earthenware and pottery industry (with a number of factory shops and visits).
