Home description

Where is it

Savoie

Saint Martin de Belleville is one of the highest original villages in the Three Valleys and retains all of its old world charm whilst being topographically in the middle of the largest ski area in the world. A new gondola from the village connects with a fast 4 man chair to reach the summit of Tougnette at 2434m above Meribel/Motteret. Turn Right and you can ski on up the Belleville valley to Les Menuires and on to Val Thorens – both within 30 minutes by road from the village – or turn Left and into the Meribel valley and on to Courcheval – not so handy by road!

Accommodation detail

The apartment is comfortably furnished and will cope with 6 people easily and comprises:

These are connected by the hall which has space (and heater) for footwear.

The apartment is heated by under floor heating and boosted by electric wall heaters.

There is a ski-locker at the foot of the stairs, and we have insulated part of the cupboard on the balcony and fitted and electric point, so boots can be stored there (and warmed with electric warmers if you have them)

Parking is now restricted at the front of the block, but that makes loading and unloading easier; parking is easily found a little way further up the village

The owners love their flat and the village and hope you do too.

About the location

The Trois Vallées ski area is world famous, and for good reasons. There are over 600 km of maintained slopes as well as many well recognised and used 'off piste' areas. There really is something for everyone, but access to it for the complete beginner from Saint Martin is not ideal.

The village itself has managed to combine sensitive development within the natural alpine ambiance of the old village dominated by the floodlit baroque church. If you are looking for wild night life and noisy bars open through the night then exit the page now – Saint Martin is not for you. If you enjoy eating well, and not being held to ransom for it, and enjoy a drink or two after a hard days skiing, and either be entertained or maybe entertain, then there are enough opportunities. All these establishments; the piano bar, the pizzeria and the other bars are within a few minutes walk. There are enough notable restaurants in the village to eat out every night of the week and with the Michelin 2* La Bouitte a short taxi ride away, the choice is yours.

The village has a cosy feel about it, one which the owners have felt comfortable to let their children wander about in; and which they fell in love with – hence why they bought their 'pied a la montagne.' It has all the necessary things, 3 ski hire shops, an ESF ski school (with excellent kids club) and ski pass office as well as a bank, pharmacy, 2 small supermarkets, an excellent boucherie, gift shops etc.

The apartment is in the middle of the village, above the boulangerie/patiserrie, handy in the morning – but it is at the back of the building so cannot hear the boulanger at his labours at 04:00. You can put your skis on at the bottom of the stairs from the flat and ski down to a button lift – and if that's enough – stop and have a coffee or something more emboldening at L'eterlou. Then up on the button lift to the top of the village turn right to the gondola and away! Then returning in the evening means turning right after the tunnel under the road and back to the foot of the stairs, unless of course the vin chaud is calling!!
