Between La Rochelle and Niort stands The Logis de Grange, the ancestral home of the 'de Ranques' family. It is a 17th Century historic manoir with picturesque outbuilding set in 10 acres of lawns, orchard, kitchen garden, shrubs and flowers. A small wood provides welcome shade, reached by a small bridge.

The main house has been extensively renovated to provide luxurious accommodation for 12 + guests and bedrooms are tastefully decorated, each in an individual style, to reflect the grandeur of the house. It also has central heating.

It is situated 30 minutes by car from La Rochelle, 15 minutes from Niort and 60 minutes from Poitiers. The nearest shops are 5 minutes drive

• Dining room with impressive polished wooden dining table seating 16 and easy access to adjoining kitchen.
• Study/TV/recreation room with sofa, 2 armchairs, worktable and computer with internet access. A TV/video and a large selection of English films suitable for all are groups.There is also a small snooker/billiard/pool table.

• Traditional country kitchen with dining table for 10/12. 5 burner gas range with large gas oven plus small electric warming oven and separate gas grill. Double sink, 2 fridge freezers, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, bread machine etc. Full complement of cooking utensils, bowls, serving dishes crockery and cutlery etc. Separate wine fridge.

• Blue bedroom suite with 2 double beds and en suite bathroom with bath. Shower room WC and basin.

Garden

One of the main delights of the Logis is its exquisite 10 acre garden and lawns. Among the areas of interest are the potager (kitchen garden), small island, ornamental mound, canals and bridges. There is also a wood and courtyard garden.

Pool

Exclusive use of a 6m x 12m heated swimming pool with tiled surround and crescent shaped steps into the shallow end. There is a barbecue, small fridge, table, chairs and sun loungers.

About the location

The nearest village is Mauze sur le Mignon (1 mile) where there is a large supermarket as well as local shops (newsagent with English papers, 2 bakers, traiteur, bars, 2 restaurants, doctor's surgery etc). There is a street market twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday). Tennis facilities are available for hire.

The surrounding countryside known as La Venise Vert is renowned for its many canals with a variety of recreational facilities and there are many attractive villages such as Coulon. The town of Surgeres has a historic centre with 16C fortifications. Niort is the nearest large town to the Logis and has an attractive central area with many fine buildings and an excellent food market.

La Rochelle is a 30 minute drive from the Logis. A popular destination for visiting yachtsmen and holiday makers. The attractive area around the old harbour has various interesting bars and restaurants specialising in seafood.

There are beaches close to town. Isle de Re is reached by a spectacular bridge from La Rochelle and is a popular holiday retreat for the French elite. The island has many fine beaches and picturesque villages with good bars and restaurants.

How to get here

General routes

From St Marlow take the N137 via Rennes to Nantes. Then take the A83 in the direction of Bordeaux coming off at junction 9, Niort central. Follow the signs to La Rochelle eventually you will find yourself on the N11 the D169 from Mauze.

From La Rochelle Take the N11 towards Niort.

• Arrive 4pm Saturday, depart 10am Saturday
• Please note these prices are for an occupancy of up to 8 people.  For an occupancy of up to 12 people the prices are an additoinal £225 to £495 depending on the date.  Please contact the owners for confirmation of the prices for an occupancy of 9 to 12 people.
