'Maison de la Reine' is an historic half timbered house once belonging to Marguerite de Bourgogne. It is situated in the wine growing village of Ligny-le-Chàtel, 9 kms from the famous wine centre of Chablis. It dates from the twelfth century and has seen restoration over the centuries. The house sleeps up to 12 guests.

The village has all amenities including baker, butcher, post office, hairdresser, supermarket and three restaurants all within walking distance.

Wine and gastronomy are just two of the attractions you can look forward to in this beautiful corner of Burgundy.

Accommodation detail

The general decor is of exposed beams, high ceilings and a tasteful mixture of modern and antique furnishings.

• Six bedrooms: three double and three twin bedrooms each with private facilities.
• A fully equipped modern fitted kitchen with electric oven, microwave, gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine etc.
• A dining room with table to seat twelve.
• A large lounge equipped with TV/DVD/Hi Fi stereo. There is also an open fireplace for those cosy evenings in front of the fire.

All linen and towels are provided.

Outside

Steps lead from the kitchen to a flower garden equipped with furniture and barbecue for al fresco eating. A bridge leads from the garden, over the mill race to a private walled park. At the front of the house, there is spacious garage parking for several cars.

About the location

Ligny le Chatel is situated in the heart of the wine growing area of Burgundy. It is 9kms from the world famous vineyards of Chablis where you can enjoy wine tasting in the numerous wine cellars. There are two good restaurants in Ligny, a boulangerie, hairdresser,chemist and two supermarkets all within walking distance. Ligny is within easy access of the A6 autoroute from Paris (1.30 hrs) and A26 autoroute from Calais (4.30 hrs).

La Maison" is situated twenty minutes from the regional centre of Auxerre, known for its gothic cathedral and medieval town.

Pontigny's famous abbey is five minutes away and the Romanesque basilica at Vezelay is well worth a visit.

There are numerous wine cellars to choose from for your wine tasting in Ligny and Chablis but also in the lesser known villages of Irancy, Saint-Bris, Chitry and Coulanges-la-vineuse, or if you prefer, tasting can be arranged in the cellar of La Maison.

"Vide greniers" (car boot sales) are held in different villages every weekend during the summer months.

And for those with an interest in football "French first division" Auxerre play at home every other week at the AJA stadium in Auxerre.
