Four Self Catering Cottages and Five Luxury B&B Rooms with Pool and large Fishing Lake
Situated at the end of a winding lane, 2 miles from Marval, in the Parc Naturel Régional Perigord-Limousin, you will find our 7-acre lake set in a beautiful valley amidst 17 acres of woodland. No road, no traffic, just peace and tranquillity in the heart of the French countryside.
30 miles of well-marked footpaths and mountain bike trails surround La Ferme du Lac. You will be enchanted as you pass through a landscape of forests, lakes, hills and wildlife. At least 120 species of birds have been spotted here, along with deer, red squirrels, wild boar and civet cats.
The night sky here at La Ferme du Lac is phenomenal. Equally you will find the sunsets to be magnificent and the sunrises are pretty spectacular too. The early morning mist rolling off the lake, with kingfishers flying by, is a sight to behold.
All in all La Ferme du Lac is the ideal spot for a family holiday in high season, or for couples who want rest and relaxation out of high season.

About Pensol in Haute-Vienne, Limousin
Our nearest village is Marval, which has basic amenities and also boasts a 13th Century Chateau (tours can be arranged). There are a number of other interesting villages and towns in the area, many of which have lively weekly markets. One of these, the so-called 'Venice' of the Dordogne, Brantome, is situated just south of us.
There is also an interesting triangle of larger towns, all about 40 miles away. Limoges, famous for its porcelain, lies to the North East, the cliff-top town of Angoulême lies to the west, whilst below us is the old Roman capital of Périgueux. Châlus, site of the siege where Richard the Lion heart was fatally injured, is just up the road.

Girl Friday

A wonderful family holiday, so relaxing in our lovely little chalets in delightful seclusion but knowing that we could pop to the bar for a sundowner or enjoy some of the delicious food served in the restaurant. Peta, Steve, John & Leona made us so welcome and Wolfie the dog had an uncanny knack of turning up at breakfast time or when we had just lit the barbie!
The facilities in the chalets were excellent - clean and well-presented with oodles of hot water for showers, a really well-equipped kitchen and comfy beds. We ate out on the veranda for virtually every meal, even on the one occasion that it rained. Our girls enjoyed the pool and making new friends, the welcome barbecue on our first night was a great bonus after a long drive and pizza night is not to be missed when the children got to make their own. We only stayed a week which was enough time to feel thoroughly relaxed but not enough time to explore the region so we'll definitely have to return. There's so much to do in the surrounding area and next time we will definitely hire bikes or even just get out and walk to explore the wonderful countryside, visit more chateaux and the lakes where you can swim or kayak - well that's if we can tear ourselves away from La Ferme.
All in all a great destination, very peaceful and self contained yet only a few minutes drive away from lots of activities and exciting days out. We would definitely recommend a holiday at La Ferme du Lac for families and also for anyone who's looking to get away from it all and escape to a magical valley of tranquillity with a really warm welcome. A Bed & Breakfast weekend break without the children is definitely on our wish list too, an excuse to sample more of Steve & Peta's wonderful food in the restaurant :-)
