Splendid large country 18th century house restored in original state, in a nature reserve in the hart of the Touraine. Beautifully situated in the splendid valley of the river Vienne, about 3 km downstream from Chinon. The country house lies in a classic French, enclosed garden (4000m2) with lawns, beds of roses and a swimming pool. The brook that streams along the garden is very romantic. There is a covered terrace, sundeck and a terrace with a fabulous view over the valley.

Domaine de l'Arche is comfortable and furnished with antiques. The view over the river is breathtaking. Garden furniture and barbeque facilities are available.

An extra apartment for 4 persons (2 bedrooms with bathroom, kitchen, living, terrace) is available at the Domain.

The landscape from Chinon to the place where the river Vienne flows into the Loire is a World Heritage Site of the UNESCO, a splendid, unspoilt countryside, extremely rich in fauna and flora. The region is famous for its castles, restaurants, markets and festivities.

Chinon and Saumur have all kinds of shops, markets every Saturday (Saumur), Sunday and Tuesday morning (Chinon) and a famous choice of restaurants. They are also well known for the wine and there is lots of opportunity to taste or visit some of the vineyards and taste the wine.
The region is ideal for horse riding, tennis, golf, biking, fishing, canoe, hiking, boat cruises, shopping and the visit of museum and theatres. Often markets (truffle, antiques), festivals and dances are organized.

About the location

Chinon and Saumur are famous for their historical city center as well as for their great wines

Most of the greatest of the Loire châteaux are less than an hour’s drive.

Chenonceaux (45 minutes), built over the river Cher in 1520 is a must.

The gracious Renaissance Château d'Azay-le-Rideau (15 minutes) is beautifully set amongst trees on the edge of a small village, moated by the Indre river. The gardens especially are worth seeing.

Chateau Villandry (30 min), beautiful castle on the Loire side with the exceptional vegetable gardens instead of flowers.

Chambord (1 hour), a forerunner of Versailles, is the largest and perhaps the most imposing of all with no fewer than 440 rooms and a huge staircase. Many of the kings of France came to spend the summer.

The wonderful royal Abbey of Fontevraud (15 minutes) is founded in the middle ages and now complete restored. King Richard Lionheart is buried in the chapel.
