Home description

Where is it

Seine-Maritime

St Lucien is a peaceful village in the Pays de Bray, which is cheese and cider country. Neufchatel cheese, made locally, is the oldest of all the Normandy cheeses. The country is rolling with picturesque villages and attractive valleys. The 'buttonhole' of Bray is a long depression running from Beauvais almost as far as Dieppe.

Accommodation detail

Le Chaudron is a carefully restored 200 year old Normandy longère in a quiet hamlet with no passing traffic. It makes an ideal, rural base for two couples or a family with two children. As an old cottage, the property has the benefit of open beams and in some rooms (particularly the kitchen and the twin bedroom), they are low ones and the owners advise tall people to take care.

The accommodation is all on the ground floor and comprises:

There is also a small utility area with washing machine. Every room is fitted with independent electric radiators so that in cooler weather guests are free to choose the level of heating that suits them in each of the rooms.

For visitors who prefer to be looked after, the owners offer bed and breakfast (and evening meal if required) in their own nearby home, "Les Quatre Oiseaux".

About the location

The property is on the edge of the forest of Lyons, an ideal spot for both walkers and cyclists. There are also châteaux, museums and gardens (including Monet's garden at Giverny) which welcome visitors. La Feuillie, which is 6km away, has all local facilities and there are a series of small towns within a 15 minute drive where there are markets, shops and supermarkets.

Close by is the spa town of Forges-les-Eaux with its famous casino, and fifteen minutes in the other direction will take you to the picturesque forest village of Lyons-La-Forêt or Ry, famed as the home of Flaubert's 'Madame Bovary.'

The beautiful old city of Rouen and the attractive valley of the Seine are only about half an hour away, and Paris and the resorts on the Normandy coast make good days out.
