This lovely 18th century stone farmhouse has been carefully restored to a high standard, at the same time keeping a cool and spacious farmhouse atmosphere. 

Vieux Mirou is in the Tarn-et-Garonne department of South West France, and in an ideal situation to explore this most beautiful of regions. There are the famous three rivers, the Tarn, the Lot and the Garonne, and the Dordogne of course, all different and each spectacular in their own ways. There are many Chateaux, some for exploring and some for wine tasting. There are also lots of Bastide towns clinging to the tops of hills, with fantastic views, and their history of the 100 years wars, many being on the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostella. Even older historical interest is in the caves where our ancestors lived and drew their animal pictures. The rivers form this wonderful rolling countryside and give the fertile soil for fruit, wheat, maize, lavender and sunflowers, and leave the lovely white stone of the Quercy Blanc region.

Altogether this property is in one of the most beautiful, tranquil and unspoilt areas of France.

Downstairs

The front entrance leads to:

• An impressive hallway with exposed roof beams, a wooden staircase and open mezzanine area.
• There is a cloakroom with washbasin and toilet.
• A downstairs bedroom  with a double bed and ensuite shower, washbasin and toilet.
• The spacious sitting area to the right of the front door features a large traditional fireplace, and also has an ancient carved stone basin. Passing through a large open stone doorway there is:
• A spacious dining area with dining table and chairs, and to the right:
• A large kitchen area with table and chairs and lots of extra work surface. The equipment includes double sink, washing machine, dishwasher, gas cooker, toaster, microwave, fridge freezer and a Barbeque which can be used inside or out.

Double French doors lead to the garden area and swimming pool.

Upstairs

The spacious galleried landing and mezzanine has a bed-settee for occasional use by prior arrangement and lots of books and games. The bedrooms comprise:-

• Bedroom 2 -  has a double bed and ensuite shower, toilet and washbasin.
• Bedroom 3 -  has 2 single beds and ensuite shower, toilet and washbasin.
• Bedroom 4 -  has a double bed and shares a large bathroom with Bathroom 5.
• Bedroom 5 - has 2 single beds.
• The bathroom has 2 washbasins, toilet and shower.

All rooms have clothes hanging and storage facilities.

On-site entertainment includes TV with video player, table tennis table, French boules and a dart board.

The farmhouse is completely centrally heated and the views of the countryside from the property have to be seen to be believed.

Outside

The garden has a large terrace area with table and plenty of chairs and sunshades. There are potted plants and shrubs,  some trees for shadey areas, and lighting for long warm summer evenings spent outside.

The 9m x 4m swimming pool is fitted with the latest salt water system and maintained by the owners, who live on site. It is floodlight and is for the sole use of guests in the farmhouse. The whole area of house, garden and pool can be made quite secure for the peace of mind of parents with wandering toddlers. The pool is walled and fenced so children cannot enter without parents opening the gate.

 

About the location

Further afield, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts and even the Pyrenees are only about 3-4 hours away in the car.

Restaurants provide adventure at every turn, from local wines and meats all through the choices, good to excellent, cheap or expensive, large or small, to the fast foods and Eastern menus. There are even a couple of restaurants within walking distance of the property.

There are festivals of all sorts throughout the year including plants, music, laughing, jazz song, blues and so on. The Brocantes or antique fairs and bric a brac sales are quite fascinating during July and August.

Local farmers markets can be found somewhere in the region every day of the week, and in August the village of Freshpech has a market where you can buy your picnic and eat it under the plum trees.

How to get here

The nearest airport is Bergerac, which is 1 hour away. Toulouse, Bourdeaux and Carcassonne are between 90 minutes and 2 hours away. There is easy car hire available.

Agen is the nearest station with connections for the TGV. Motorways lead from the North to Bordeaux and across to Villeneuve sur Lot and to Cahors. Vieux Mirou is on the D47 approximately 1 kilometre from Valeilles and 1 kilometre from Dausse.
