The flat is an ideal pied-a-terre to enjoy the pleasures of the sea, of historic La Rochelle and of the beautiful Ile de Ré. The flat is less than 50 metres from the beach (no street to cross!), and even closer to the bakery.

There are several shops and restaurants across the street, and a very nice path along the seafront, for walks or biking.

The sea-bus is about 100 metres away, and provides quick and easy access to the centre of La Rochelle, with its outstanding architecture.

This one-bedroom flat with south-facing balcony is on the second floor of a quiet residential building, in Les Minimes, the leisure harbour of La Rochelle. The flat sleeps up to four people and comprises:

• Bedroom with double bed (there is also a double sofa-bed in the lounge).
• Small kitchen offers basic amenities (oven, fridge, electric hobs, toaster, coffee-maker), as well as all the "tools" needed to enjoy the local seafood: oyster knife and forks, crab crackers, etc, and a wide range of crockery. A sliding door separates the kitchen from the lounge.
• Bright lounge has a dining area (nice wooden table and chairs) and a sitting area with sofa-bed.
• Balcony also has a table and chairs for outdoor apéritif and dining.
• Bathroom has a full size bath/shower, a washbasin and a WC.

The flat has tiled floors throughout. All furniture was recently purchased (2002). The building exterior is made of dark wood, and the building has an open-air atrium with exotic plants, giving it a pleasant holiday feel. Access to a private landscaped car park is available.

About the location

La Rochelle is a city which combines history, great food, high quality shopping, access to the sea and beautiful natural areas and plenty of sunshine. La Rochelle was settled in the 10th Century and has had a tumultuous history of rebellion and independence. The town centre and port boast many historical buildings including the imposing Tour St Nicolas, a 19th Century indoor market (still in use today) and well-preserved city walls along which the Tourist Office organises evening walks by candlelight.

La Rochelle has over 400 restaurants (the owner will be happy to recommend some!) with many different cuisines. It is best known for its outstanding oysters and seafood. There are plenty of shopping streets, many of which are pedestrian-only in the summer, with a range of small boutiques and international brands.

How to get here

Air: Direct flights from London-Standsted, Southampton and Birmingham. Approximately 90 miles from Nantes airport (direct flights from London-Gatwick)

Ferry: About 200 miles from Saint-Malo ferry terminal, 300 miles from Cherbourg and Le Havre and 430 miles from Calais.

Rail: Eurostar: change in Paris. Paris-La Rochelle by TGV takes 3 hours.
