The hamlet of La Chantelouas lies down a narrow winding country lane, 5 minutes by car from the village of Pleslin, off the road from Dinard to Dinan.

Pass the fresh water spring at the road side, cross the River Fremur (more a babbling brook at this stage), turn the corner and ahead lies La Chantelouas, surrounded by fields of crops.

Le Noyer is a double fronted, two storey cottage in the centre of a terrace, topped by its original granary door and identifiable by its white shutters.  It is a comfortable, well equipped house, with simple white walls and beamed ceilings.  With walls over a foot thick, an open fireplace and efficient central heating, the house is warm in winter and pleasantly cool in summer.

The bedroom

Double doors give access to the terrace and back garden - over 1.5 acres of meadow and orchard with a picnic table for outside lunching.  The garden also contains the large walnut tree (le Noyer) after which we named the cottage.

Ground Floor:

• Lounge/Diner - Spacious with granite fireplace and comfortable seating with 2 sofas, and an oak refectory table which seats 8 people.  Radio/CD/Cassette provided.
• Kitchen - Large, recently modernised, well equipped kitchen, with double oven, electric hotplate, microwave, fridge freezer, dish washer and washing machine.
• Modern bathroom - with bath (and shower attachment) and toilet.
• Double doors - open from the kitchen on to a large patio.

First Floor:

All bedrooms are simply furnished with French country furniture, stripped and varnished wooden floors with rugs, whitewashed (and not very straight) walls.

• Master bedroom - (double bed) and built in wardrobes (with travel cot)
• Bedroom 2 - with two 4' double beds.

Second Floor:

• Bedroom 3 - a large loft, with exposed beams, running the length of the house, with two 4' double beds.

Outside:

• Large Patio
• 1.5 acres of meadow and orchard - with a picnic table for outside lunching. 

Pillows and duvets are provided.  Linen may also be supplied at £5 per person.

About the location

The attractions of the area are why we bought the cottage.  Twenty minutes by car from St. Malo (with ferry connections to Portsmouth), about 5 miles from the estuary waters of the Rance (for those who like messing about on the river), five miles from medieval Dinan, ten miles from the fashionable fin de siecle resort of Dinard, and about the same distance from a host of white sand beaches on the Cote d'Emeraude - St. Briac, St. Lunaire, St. Jacut, Lancieux.
