This charming cottage has been lovingly converted into ideal holiday accommodation catering for all your needs. You will be personally welcomed and we will do our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Nestled between 2 historic Cathar castles which flank the village of Fenouillet there are stunning views of the luscious countryside from the terrace. All around is unspoiled landscape; mountains, rivers, gorges and waterfalls on the doorstep.

An ideal location for country lovers looking for activities such as walking, riding, cycling on the numerous well-marked trails. It is also perfect for those who just want to relax in the sun and observe the wonderful wildlife and enjoy the occasional trip to the unspoilt beaches on the coast.

There is a natural lake for swimming within a 10 minute walk, plus a free swimming pool and tennis court a ten minute drive away at Fosse.  There is also a pool in the owner's garden which can be accessed by arrangement.

Those looking for a more adventurous holiday will find white water rafting, canoeing, canyoning, horse riding and winter skiing.

It is possible to walk to the nearest village, Caudies, down the beautiful gorge de St Jaume which starts with a stunning waterfall just 50 metres from the cottage. (45' walk to Caudies)

The cottage has been thoughtfully equipped to cater for all your needs. From microwave to coffee machine, tv, video and cd player. We are nearby, ready to cater for all your needs, answer your questions and make your holiday as effortless as possible.

The accommodation comprises:

Ground Floor

Own entrance into living room

• Kitchen/diner - fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker, fridge, microwave. Dining table and 4 chairs. French dresser
• Living room - spacious area with sofa plus 3 easy chairs,satellite TV, video, books
• Shower room - with washbasin/toilet/power shower

First Floor

• Bedroom - large sunny room with double bed/wardrobe/additional sofa bed, dressing table and chair.  Leads on to terrace.

Lower Ground Floor

New this year - large bed/sitting room with separate bathroom. 2 single beds + double sofa bed. Table and chairs. Tea/coffee making facilities. Own entrance. Not accessible directly from upper rooms. Suitable for second couple or older children.  Price on asking.

Outside

Terrace at first floor level with stunning views, table, chairs, barbecue, sun loungers.

About the location

Nearest shops are 8 minutes drive away in Caudies de Fenouilledes. Here there is a butcher, baker, newsagent, mini-supermarket, chemist and post office. Also a lively bar and restaurant.

Within a 15 minute drive is St Paul with a large supermarket, garage, shops and restaurants plus a Saturday market. 25 minutes west is the pretty market town of Quillan which is bustling with restaurants, shops, bars and a large supermarket complex. There is a market here every Wednesday and Saturday.

Nearest swimming pool is a 10 minute drive in Fosse, and is free. There is also a lovely swimming lake just a 10 minute walk.  The main house also has a swimming pool which may be used by arrangement with the owner.

Places to Visit

The whole region remains very unspoiled, yet offers a wealth of things to do and see. There are stunning Cathar castles to explore, notably Peyreperteuse, Queribus and Puilarens not forgetting St Pierre in our own village. At Tautavel is a fascinating museum dedicated to pre-historic man and you can view the ongoing archaeological dig on giant web screens.

Fenouillet is just one hour from the beautiful Mediterranean beaches, and one hour from the ski slopes so great in both winter and summer.

The area is famous for some fine examples of roman architecture such as the aqueduct at Ansignan, the abbey at Serrabonne and the thermal baths at Rennes le Bains where you can bathe all year round in hot spas. Perpignan, the very Spanish capital of the region, is an hours drive and the beautiful medieval walled city of Carcassone 1 hour 20 minutes.

Just south of Perpignan is the quaint historic town of Ceret, home to many famous impressionist artists who are exhibited in the museum of modern art. Also for art lovers is the beautiful fishing village of Collioure, birthplace of Fauvism, or the Dali museum at Figueres just across the Spanish border and enjoy lunch on the Spanish coast just a 1 hr 30 min drive from Fenouillet.

The Languedoc Roussillon is now the largest wine growing region of France and there are numerous vineyards offering the opportunity to taste the many wonderful varieties of wine on offer, and several excellent restaurants, including 2 locally with michelin stars.

Air Travel:

Numerous airlines operate into Perpignan (45 minutes) Carcassonne (75 minutes) Girona (2 hours) Toulouse (2 hours 30 minutes) from Stansted, Luton, Gatwick, Bournemouth, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Southampton, Manchester and others.

Additional price information

• All prices are per week. Saturday to Saturday arriving at 4pm departing at 10am.
• Negotiable prices for lets of 2 weeks or more.
• Prices include bath towels. Laundry facilities available on request.
• A deposit of 30% is required on booking with final payment 6 weeks before the start of the holiday plus on arrival a refundable damage deposit of £100.
• Electricity is metered in low season.
• Prices quoted are for 2 sharing.  If studio room is required there is a surcharge depending on the number of people.
