La Rochelle: "the most attractive and unspoilt seaside town in France" ... why stay in a hotel, when you could relax in your own "home from home" in one of our  studio apartments ?

This one is ideally situated for exploring both the Old Town/Port and the Marinas - where old  La Rochelle meets the new.

All the comfort of a quality hotel room, but with your own privacy and independence. Just a few minutes walk from  the centre of La Rochelle and the Old Port, but in a quiet location to escape from the bustle !

The Studio près de la Ville en Bois is on the first floor of a high quality Residence, overlooking a decked courtyard with palms, terracing and seating.

It is set in a unique location "where old La Rochelle meets the new": right next to the vibrant Ville en Bois quarter, which is set at the entrance to the Old Port of La Rochelle. In the other direction, you will find the pleasure marina and beach of Les Minimes.

At 22m2 + 6m2 balcony, it is larger than an average hotel room, but as with the our other studios with many extra facilities.

Built in 2006, the studio consists of:

• Living room/bedroom (4.7m x 2.7m) - sofa, coffee table, dining table and 2 chairs, TV/DVD, CD/radio/cassette player, room safe, a direct dial telephone/answering machine (enabling dial-up internet access if you bring a laptop) and a full sized double bed with quality mattress, which folds to the wall for additional daytime living space (it is NOT a sofa-bed !). A child's bed, for one child, can be provided upon request.
• Kitchenette - in one corner of the living room with: 2 ring hob, mini-oven & fridge with freezer compartment (for those G&T ice cubes !)
• Entrance lobby - with fitted wardrobe
• Shower room/WC - with a washing machine and heated towel rail
• Balcony - large (6m) full width with double sliding patio doors, 2 steamer chairs, table & chairs

Outside:

• Parking in the Residence's secure underground parking

The ever popular "finishing touches":

• With your confirmation letter, you will get copies of the studio’s information booklet - with everything from the owners favourite places to eat and drink, to the all important opening times of local supermarkets - and of course maps and directions for getting to the studio!

Waiting for you when you arrive:

• An abundance of up to date tourist maps, guides and leaflets - carefully organised to make it easy to find just what you want.
• The studio Information Folder with details of everything from the latest weather forecast, times of local markets, and information about how to use all the studio's equipment.
• Initial supplies of tea, coffee, milk and sugar, so you can have a cuppa to recover from your journey (or if you need something stronger there is always the complimentary bottle of wine!)

The studio is well equipped with heating for the cooler months, with wall mounted electric radiators.

The owners are ashamed to say that some of the internal doors are too narrow for wheelchairs to get through. Otherwise, the facilities are quite accessible for people with mobility difficulties and there is a lift from the ground floor.

About the location

The Studio près de la Ville en Bois is ideally located for exploring both the old port/town and the newer marinas of cosmopolitan La Rochelle.

The studio is set in a unique location "where old La Rochelle meets the new" : right next to the vibrant Ville en Bois quarter, which is set at the entrance to the Old Port of La Rochelle. In the other direction, a 5-10 minutes walk takes you to the pleasure marina & beach of Les Minimes.

Walk out of the Residence and around the landscaped lake next door you will find a number of bars and restaurants within 2 minutes walk!

But a 15 minute walk takes you right to the entrance to La Rochelle's Old Port, with all the life of old La Rochelle. En-route you'll see just how impressively La Rochelle blends the old with the new. The Ville en Bois quarter takes the sea-faring history of La Rochelle and with imaginative use of yachting's wood and chrome creates a spectacular area that is still very much La Rochelle.

But in case you do not feel like venturing into the centre of La Rochelle every evening, within a minute or two's walk from your studio in other directions, you have got a range of local bars, eateries and shops, either in the Ville en Bois quarter, or in the local area of Tasdon ! Perfect for getting a bit of shopping in to cook yourself a meal - or even to get a takeaway pizza !

La Rochelle well deserves its reputation as "the most attractive & unspoilt seaside town in France". Set around its Old Port, with its famous twin towers, are a host of delights including port side bars and restaurants, old arcaded town streets, parks and gardens historical buildings such as the Hôtel de Ville, Maison Henri II or the Palais de Justice – as well as of course the Tours de la Chaîne, la Lanterne and St.Nicolas, museums of all sorts, including Musée des Beaux-Arts, Musée du Nouveau Monde and the Musée Maritime and La Rochelle beach to relax on after a walk though the sea-front parks!

How to get here

The studio is easily accessible, with no need to have a car:

• Studio près de la Ville en Bois is just a 20 minute taxi ride away from La Rochelle airport, with direct flights from UK & elsewhere
• it is just a 10 minute taxi ride from the rail station with high speed TGV trains from the UK / Channel Tunnel and the rest of Europe
• and once there, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to get around La Rochelle and its surrounding areas: whether by foot, bike, boat, train or bus (2 bus routes stop at the door) !
• but if you prefer to drive, or hire a car, there is equally easy access to the autoroute network (just 4 hours from the Channel ports) – and a studio has parking available.
