Le Péré provides peaceful holidays for people who want to get away from the crowd. It is a traditional French farmhouse with two gîtes to the rear of the property.

The property itself comprises 11 acres of land in which guests are free to roam, including a lake where fishing is available on request. There is also a nine hole pitch and putt golf course available for guests to use. Situated in the Vendée region of France, the idyllic setting is only a short drive from the nearest village.

A bread van delivers bread several times a week and there is also a hotel in the small village of Faymoreau Centre-Minier, where guests can find a bar and a restaurant. The surrounding area is excellent for cycling or walking and on the property itself there is a large swimming pool for the guests to share.

Temperatures in this region of France rise to well over 100 degrees in the height of summer and compare favourably with the South of France.

The swimming pool is situated beyond the patio and is shared by all guests. In keeping with new French laws, there is a wall surrounding the pool and a double latched gate so young children cannot enter by themselves.

Each gîte has its own patio with furniture for outdoor dining. The shared pool is ideal for cooling down in the high temperatures common here in the middle of Summer, or maybe for just sunbathing around the side.

Accommodation detail

Gite Les Peupliers sleeps seven people comfortably in two bedrooms.

The accommodation comprises:

• The master bedroom has a double bed, built in wardrobe, dressing table and en-suite bathroom. It also has French doors that lead out into a private garden area. There is a view of the lake from the window.
• The second bedroom has one single bed and bunk beds, ideal for children. It has a chest of drawers and a window overlooking the patio, also with lake views.
• The main living area has a three piece suite, the sofa being a double fold out bed, television with a selection of English channels and a small coffee table. This adjoins the dining area, with seating for seven. At one side is the kitchen, with modern units, a gas cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave. French doors lead out onto the patio where there is a table and chairs for dining outdoors and a small barbecue.

The swimming pool is situated beyond the patio and is shared by all guests.

About the location

Le Péré is situated near the small villages of Faymoreau Bourg and Faymoreau Centre Minier. Faymoreau Bourg, a short walk away, comprises of a few small houses and a church. Faymoreau Centre Minier, a short drive away, has an hotel with bar and restaurant. There is also a small museum nearby charting the history of the village as a mining centre, and this is well worth a visit. Also a large church can be found here, with intricately beautiful stained glass windows, another feature that should be seen.

Two miles further away by road is the town of Coulonges-sur-l'Autize, which hosts a weekly market every Tuesday and also has several small shops. On the outskirts of this town is a supermarket and a petrol station.

Thirty minutes drive away is the town of Fontenay-le-Comte, which has a lively high street populated with a wide range of shops. On the outskirts of this town are several large supermarkets, DIY outlets, garden centres, clothing hypermarkets and shoe hypermarkets. There is also a McDonalds.

Just over an hour's drive away is the beautiful beach of La Tranche sur Mer, with miles of golden sands and several restaurants, perfect for a day out in the sun.

Whenever you feel like staying in and relaxing, then the land of Le Péré is free for you to roam. There are just over 11 acres of grassland and trees for you to explore, with several benches dotted around when you need to just sit and be at peace. A medium sized lake is at one end of the property and contains various types of fish, making for a relaxing day for the keen anglers amongst you.

How to get here

The nearest airport is La Rochelle and we're a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from there. Take the Niort directions, then follow signs to marans and then to Fontenay le Comte. Extra details can be given on request.
