Situated in 4.5 acres of meadowland and trees, surrounded by forest and attached to a farmhouse, the first-floor gîte 'is' peace and tranquillity.

Now renovated, this 200 year old former working farm is home to the owners, and the independantly accessed gîte with its own private patio is next door.

The gîte faces South and overlooks the 11 metres by 6 metres heated swimming pool.

Accommodation detail

The gite is reached by its own external staircase and comprises:

Kitchen / living / dining room - large open plan area (11 metres by 6) consisting of kitchen with gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher, a dining area seating up to 6 and a sitting area with wood burning stove, double bed settee, TV, DVD player, video and CD cassette radio. 

Upstairs

Double bedroom - having en suite access to the bathroom.

Twin bedroom

Bathroom - with shower, WC and washbasin.

All rooms have electric radiators. Cot available but no cot linen.

Outside

Outside is a patio with a table and chairs and barbecue. There are large poolside patios surrounded by lawn for sunbathing, with sunbeds, tables and chairs. Pool towels are provided. Kindly note the pool is shared with the owners. Large trees around the pool give natural shade. Feel free to roam around our land and the surrounding forest. There are good local walks and wildlife abounds, with an enormous variety of wild birds and butterflies.

About the location

Not only the perfect holiday location, but an ideal situation for those interested in purchasing property and picking the brains of Sally and Will, the English owners. This unspoilt region close to the Mediterranean coast, Pyrenees and Spain, offers medieval towns, Cathar castles, beautiful scenery and, more importantly, good reasonably priced local restaurants serving local dishes and excellent locally produced wine.

You will find a market somewhere nearby every day of the week. Mirepoix market is held on a Monday and is especially worth a visit. This medieval town is unique and is said to have the most beautiful square in Ariège. Mirepoix is 15 minutes drive as is Limoux which holds its market on a Friday. Carcassonne with its magnificent walled cité is half an hour away.

If you are feeling energetic you can explore Cathar castles, climb mountains, visit local villages and vineyards and take part in local fêtes which take place throughout the year. Limoux carnaval runs each year every weekend from January until just before Easter and most villages and towns hold at least one fête during Spring, Summer or Autumn. They are great fun and the locals are very welcoming.

If however you would rather take it easy, then La Roumaude is the place to be. Peace and quiet, beautiful forest walks with fantastic wild flowers and a wonderful variety of wild birds and butterflies, or simply enjoy the pool and surroundings.
