La Maison Jaune is a large renovated 300-year-old village house offering very comfortable and spacious accommodation over three floors. There are 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and exceptionally well equipped kitchen and living areas including UK satellite TV.

It is an idyllic base for one or two couples and is situated opposite the village square. Close by the front is one of the village fountains, an old Romanesque arch to the square and a quiet road lined by giant plane trees – to the rear a delightful private garden offering sunshine and shade in plentiful supply.

The house is fully centrally heated and ideal for year round holidays.

The house is considerably larger than it appears from the exterior and we hope that the following information may help you picture the space available. Most of the rooms are not strictly rectangular and the dimensions are approximate.

The house is situated in a quiet quarter of the village and both bedrooms are at the rear of the house and face roughly southwest.

The front door opens to the spacious entree with armchairs, a downstairs loo and stairs to the upper floors. There is a large fully equipped kitchen including electric oven, electric/gas hob, microwave and dishwasher. The 'L' shaped living room has a dining area with a large table and a sitting area with two plump sofas, armchair and UK satellite TV. A patio door opens onto the private walled garden where an ancient fig tree and large umbrella provide shade from the warm Provencal sun.

On the first floor is a bedroom with a king size bed and its own private terrace with table, chairs and a parasol – an indulgent setting for breakfast 'al fresco' or whatever! In addition there is a walk in wardrobe, which also houses the automatic washing machine. Also on this floor is a full bathroom with separate shower cubicle, basin and loo. On the second floor there is another large bedroom with twin beds, a second bathroom (large shower, basin and loo) and a dressing room.

Included in the rental are mains water, electricity and bottled gas for the hob. An oil-fired boiler provides hot water and during the winter months full central heating. Fresh towels (for use in the house only) and bed linen are provided. There is a telephone for incoming and local outgoing calls.

The house is also our home so the standard of comfort, furnishing and fittings is somewhat higher than those in the majority of commercially rented properties – a fact that many of our guests have remarked on. We restrict the maximum number of guests to four so that they may enjoy the most comfortable possible holiday experience. As we wish the house to remain at its best for all and minimise the possibility of damage or disruption, we regret that we do not accept under 21's, children or pets. We request that guests do not smoke in the house.

Car parking is available in the road immediately outside the house or in the bays between the house and the fountain.

About the location

Located on the quiet tree lined road round the village square with parking available immediately outside the house. There are 3 restaurants and 2 cafe-bars within 5 minutes walk. In addition 2 bakers, a mini-market and a general store are less than 3 minutes walk.

A small market is held on Wednesday mornings and a choice of markets in neighbouring villages every day of the week. Avignon is 30 minutes drive away with Aix an hour away and Marseille about 1 hour 15 minutes.

How to get here

The house is around 625 miles by Autoroute from Calais.

An overnight Motorail service operates from Calais to Avignon from spring through to autumn saving the long drive through France.

During the peak season, a direct Eurostar service usually runs between London and Avignon Centre Station on Saturdays with excellent timings and fares. The combination of Eurostar and TGV high-speed trains between London and Avignon TGV Station, via either Paris or Lille, is another attractive option and can allow for a later start from London.

The nearest airports to the house are Avignon, Marseilles, Nimes and Montpellier. Avignon is just over half an hour away. Marseilles and Nimes airports are around an hours drive from the house and Montpellier is about an hour and a half. At the time of writing FlyBE operates to Avignon; BA, easyJet, Ryanair and Air France operate to Marseilles; Ryanair to Nimes and Ryanair to Montpellier. Lyon Airport is a two hour drive from the house and Nice is around three hours.

Pre-booked car hire is available from both Avignon railway stations and all the airports mentioned.
