Character Beamed Cottage in Hillside location

This one-bedroom beamed cottage full of charecter nestling in the hillside on the edge of the little village of Raye-Sur-Authie is 1.25hrs drive from Calais and 15mins from Hesdin in the lush Authie Valley.

There are three good local bistros within five minutes, a well stocked supermarket in local village of Le Boisle and many good restaurants in Hesdin.

The lovely fast-flowing River Authie is within 5 minutes walking distance and the Forest of Crécy and Hesdin are about 20 minutes drive from the cottage. A swimming pool on the outskirts of Hesdin is due to be completed this summer 2012 and will be a great attractons for families.

Holiday Accommodation at Chez Eileen

The accommodation consists of :

  • Spacious lounge with beams and satellite TV.
  • Dining area with garden view
  • Large kitchen/utility area with modern units, fan assisted electric fan-assisted oven with ceramic hobs, fridge, freezer,toaster,kettle, coffee maker, microwave, mini grill, washing machine,dishwasher, utility sink with drier, iron and board.
  • Large beamed sunny double aspect attic bedroom with one double and one single bed for couples or small family.
  • Modern bathroom with shower unit, washbasin and loo.
  • All rooms have natural light and garden views.

Outside

There is a pebbled patio area with garden furniture and barbeque and a large half-acre landscaped garden with fishpond and lovely hillside views. Off-road parking is available.

The English owner lives nearby.

About Raye Sur Authie in Pas-de-Calais, Nord Pas de Calais

The cottage is situated in the small hamlet of Raye-sur-Authie, 5 minutes drive from le Boisle the nearest bar/restaurant, a butchers/bakers shop and a basket weaving workshop called the Vannerie that offers tours and a minimarket. There are 2 further restaurants and a pottery workshop on the road to Berck (15mins).

Larger shops are located in Hesdin 8kms away and Abbeville (30 mins). Visit the busy market in Hesdin on a Thursday morning and St Valery on Sunday morning. Take a tour of the Abbey and Gardens of Valloires and local pottery and basket weaving shops.  Visit the Mediaevel castle of Fressin that holds a pageant every summer and the Son et Lumiere depicting Victor Hugo's Miserables at Montreuil.

Visit the battlegrounds of Crécy and the fascinating museum at Azincourt. Try the  wines of the Caves de Vieux Chai at Fressin. 

WW1 and 2 enthusiasts will be keen to visit la Cupole in St Omer and the underground bunkers at Albert and Vimy Ridge.

Try sandsurfing and kite flying on the beach at Berck, golf and water sports at Le Touquet and Fort Mahon and the wonderful seaworld at Nausicaa in Boulogne.  Other local sports include river and pond fishing, hill rambling , riverside walks and cycling.
