Home description

Le Castel is a classic Napoleon III chateau with twin turrets. It is small, intimate chateau in Normandy's Manche region. We offer high quality and versatile accommodation for one to 21 people.

Le Castel features just six luxurious bedrooms, which are all ensuite.  You can rent anything from one room on a bed and breakfast basis to the whole house for a party, family holiday or wedding. If you book the whole house you have the option of being fully catered, part catered or self catering.

There is also a self catering gite in a beautiful 18th century stone Longere. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one ensuite).

The chateau guest house sleeps up to 13 adults in four double rooms, a twin and a triple room. There are also two fold up beds for children and three cribs for babies.

The two bed cottage sleeps four people . Child beds and cots are also available.

The house and gite are set in four acres of secluded parkland in countryside just outside the cathedral city of Coutances. Le Castel is ideally located for visiting Mont St Michel, the D Day Beaches and Bayeux. 

Wide, sandy beaches are 20 minutes away.

Le Castel is ideal for exclusive hire - groups of family and/or friends can take over the whole chateau at reduced rates. You can hire it on a self catering basis, with bed and breakfast or as a fully catered house party. At Christmas and New Year the chateau is only available on an exclusive hire basis. The chateau is elaborately decorated for the festive season with a 9 foot high Christmas tree, dress fire places and staircase. The chateau is perfect for old Victorian party games like Murder in the Dark and Sardines. The chateau is warm and cosy in winter, with central heating a roaring log fires.

Le Castel is also perfect for small weddings. The back drop of the house makes spectacular photographs.

Le Castel has two friendly and curious llamas that can be taken for walks by guests. It is a unique experience!

Voici is a well fitted two bed, two bathroomed cottage in the grounds Le Castel.

The cottage has been created from a row of pretty 18th century stone cottages.

Voici enjoy views of Le Castel, a classic Napoleon III chateau with turrets.

The cottage is set in four acres of parkland just outside of Coutances. 

The cottage is superbly well fitted and blends old world charm with 21st century comfort. Original beams and exposed stone work collide harmoniously with innovative touches and styling from today. All equipment is new. Linen is new and stylish.

There is a TV with UK channels and a video. There is also Wi Fi access free of charge.

Voici has a wood burning stove in the lounge and electric heating, making it ideal for cosy winter lets. It is well insulated and heats up quickly.

Sleeps up to four people plus a child in a cot or put-u-up bed.

• Kitchen/dining room - Oven, microwave, fridge etc. Atrium that soars 5 metres over the dining table.
• Lounge - large room with comfy 1930s leather suite with club chairs that you sink into. Wood burning stove and electric heating
• Bedroom one - with a double bed and ensuite. The ensuite has a relaxing shower with a ten jet massage system.  There is an alcove suitable for a cot.
• Bedroom two - oversized  twin sleigh beds - 110cm and 120cm wide. There is room for a fold up bed, but it does make the room feel smallish.
• Bathroom - with bath and shower over it.

Outside:

Gite users can enjoy the four acres of parkland that the gites and Le Castel are set in. Search out swings, splash pool (during summer) and picnic areas. The parkland is completely fenced and safe for children.

Opposite Le Castel is a farm with children aged 7 to 14, who are often happy to play with your youngsters.

Sometimes we do not update the availability calendar as there is often suitable accommodation in the main chateau. Please note that the Le Castel gite often sells out for the entire summer by the second Sunday in January, but accommodation in the main house tends to be booked nearer the time of arrival.

About the location

Le Castel is close to the pretty hill-top cathedral town of Coutances. All of the main tourist sights of Normandy are also easily reached including Mont St Michel, Bayeaux, and the D-Day beaches. The old Norman cities of Caen and Rouen can both be visited easily in a day and provide some great shopping as well as fascinating history to discover. Rennes is also an hour away. We are 20 minutes from beautiful, deserted beaches. Golf courses are also 20 minutes away.

How to get here

How to get there:

Le Castel is around an hour from the channel ports of Cherbourg and Caen. Or you can fly to Dinard airport (with Ryanair flights from London Stansted, Bristol or East Midlands), which is around 90 minutes away.  The Eurotunnel is an easy 4 hour drive away.

The local towns of Coutances and Saint Lo also have SNCF stations offering easy rail transfers from Cherbourg, Caen and Paris. Paris is 2.5 hours away by train.
