Attractive, self-contained, single storey gite, basking in the calm countryside, adjacent to its own private pool, orchard and forest.

Located in the two hundred-year-old hamlet of Chez Javelle, south-east Charente, two kilometres from the Dordogne border on a hillside, affording stunning views across valley, fields and forest. An ideal base for numerous activities and past-times. Come and sit in the shade of the trees, relax, soak in the tranquillity broken only by the sounds of the cranes, woodpeckers and buzzards.

Accommodation detail

Sleeps four to six comfortably in three large carpeted bedrooms.

• Double bedroom has a king-size bed with a view of the orchard and forest.
• Bedroom with a 'Slumberland' bed-settee and a view of well house and orchard. This room also doubles as lounge if required with a television coupled to DVD and VCR player.
• Bedroom with 2 substantial bunk beds which can be used as 2 singles.  The view from this room is across the herb garden into the courtyard.
• Well equipped central dining/kitchen area, which opens, through French doors onto the courtyard.
• Toilet
• Separate shower room

Equipment provided includes, bottled gas cooker/oven, refrigerator, microwave oven, use of owners' washing machine, electric kettle, toaster, coffe machine, iron and ironing-board, DVD, TV, radio/CD and video players.

All bedrooms have English style pillows with duvets, blankets and normal bed linen, and all are equipped with washbasin, power points, hairdryer and pedestal fans. All windows have roll down fly screens and shutters to provide a comfortable environment in which to sleep.

Outside you have a barbeque, garden furniture, badminton, table tennis and other ball games, private pool, swings and see-saw .

About the location

Situated in the quiet hamlet of Chez Javelle, at the end of a no through lane, but ten minutes drive from the town of Villebois-Lavalette, with its' supermarket, shops, Saturday market all under the walls of a superb chateau. The area boasts many good quality bar/restaurants, with more markets in other towns. The ramparted city of Angouleme is recommened for its' architecture including the grand cathedral, shops and during the evening relaxing in or outside of the many restaurants frequently serenaded by wandering musicians.

The areas north and south of the city host two major shopping malls with hypermarkets.

The local activities include sightseeing, four golf courses, lake and river canoeing, horse riding, fishing, walking, riding on hired bicycles, swimming in the surrounding lakes or full size swimming pools and visiting the various grottoes.

Chez Javelle is an hour from St. Emelion famous for the Bordeaux wine of the region but has an equally good vineyard and accompanying grotto at nearby St. Sornin.

How to get here

The four airports at Limoges, Poitiers, Bergerac, and Bordeaux surround the property, and all are served by low costs airlines, with car rental connections. In addition, fly to Paris by low-cost 'EasyJet', and catch the superb, Paris to Bordeaux TGV rail link. This runs through Angouleme, twenty minutes away, whose station also hosts car rental facilities.

Or just drive there. The ferry port of St Malo, being only five hours to the north, with Calais seven hours away.  Maps and directions can be provided upon request, with confirmation of bookings. The nearest main route to Chez Javelle is the D939 Angouleme to Perigeux road.

All prices are per week. Weeks start on Saturdays and end on Fridays. Arrival after 4pm and departure by 10am.
