La Rivolte is a magnificent 19th century mansion on the outskirts of Grasse, in the foothills of the Alpes Maritimes.  Built at the height of the Belle Epoque, La Rivolte is set in an idyllic terraced Mediterranean garden with a jade green heated pool, panoramic sea views, olives, palms and fruit trees. An excellent base from which to explore the Cote d'Azur. 

Accommodation detail

The house has been modernised, whilst retaining its friendly, old-fashioned atmosphere and style.  Accommodation comprises:

  • Well-equipped large kitchen/dining room with an open wood fire.
  • Two comfortably furnished "salons", with a library of guide-books and novels. Sky television, DVD player (with large DVD library), X-Box, a games cupboard and a piano.
  • All bedrooms face south with a view to the sea on clear days through palms and pines.   The house accommodates a maximum of fourteen, plus another two in a small annexe.
  • Jasmin : Large double bedroom. En-suite bath. Private terrace off bathroom at rear of house.
  • Rose : Large double bedroom. En-suite shower.
  • Camelia : Double bedroom. En-suite bathroom.
  • Herb Cottage : Double bedroom. Garden Annex with en-suite shower. Private patio area with table and chairs.
  • Mimosa & Violette : 2 twin bedrooms, with en-suite bath or shower.
  • Lavande : Twin bedroom with sole use of shower room/toilet across passageway.
  • Lilas : Twin bedroom on 1st floor with no ensuite facilities but with private balcony over terrace (shower & wc on ground floor).

    • Outdoors

    There is a ping-pong table and a model railway, extremely popular with children.  Guests are free, in the appropriate season, to pick their own fruit and olives.  As well as being available to rent as a whole during the summer months, we also offer accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis from October to May.   The villa has also been the location for several photo shoots. Previous rentals have included poetry workshops, guitar workshops and painting workshops.

    About the location

    Grasse

    Grasse is an ancient French town that tumbles down the mountainside in a labyrinth of narrow streets, tiny shops, shady squares, and age-worn pastel facades.   It is best known as the world capital of perfume, and you can still visit the three perfume companies on which its prosperity was based for centuries.   The main square of Grasse is a short walk from La Rivolte, and its markets and open-air restaurants are regularly visited by guests.

    The Cote d'Azur

    Grasse, Cannes and Nice (both 30 minutes drive) form the "Golden Triangle" of the Cote d'Azur, an area astonishingly rich in history, art, gastronomy and outdoor activities of every kind.  Galleries, museums, antiques, sailing, flying, golf, tennis, riding, paragliding, scuba-diving, go-karting, canyoning, gambling, wine-tasting, skiing and superb mountain walking - all can be found within about half an hour's drive of La Rivolte.

    Autumn and Winter

    The Cote d'Azur was 'invented', largely by the British, as a winter, not a summer, resort.  With about 320 days and 2,900 hours of sunshine per year, it is particularly beautiful in low season, with brilliant sunshine, deep blue skies, and often eat-outdoors midday temperatures - perfect for walking, golf or culture-hunting.  With extremely cheap off-season flights to Nice, an autumn or winter holiday at La Rivolte can be remarkably economical.

    How to get here

    Nice Cote d'Azur airport is just a 30 minute drive from La Rivolte. There is a bus station a short walk from the villa with buses running from Nice and Cannes and also a train station in Grasse linking the town to Antibes, Cannes, Nice and further afield.
