Home description

La Buissonade is located in a peaceful and picturesque valley with views towards the stunning hillside village of Simiane la Rotonde.  The house is surrounded by fields of lavender which produce the world famous perfumes of Provence.

Located between Apt and Banon, a holiday here leaves you well placed to sample the various and many local products from the world class Luberon and Ventoux wines to leaf-wrapped Banon cheeses, honey, aperitifs and nougatines to name but a few.

Simiane La Rotonde is often featured in books on Provence as being one of the most picturesque villages and is rightly considered to be one of the jewels of Provence.

It's winding streets are full of ancient architecture and it is famed for the many beautiful doorways and it's 16th Century covered market-place where in the summer, you can visit the restaurant there and admire the stunning views as you eat. There is also a beautiful church, an ancient bell-tower and a chateau-fort. The famous rotonde at the top of the village dates from the 12th Century. This mysterious and surprising tower with it's high stone ceiling and medieval carvings hosts an annual festival of art and ancient music. We can send details of this if you are interested.

About the location

Apt has a superb Saturday market where you can sample many of the fine foods or just enjoy the riot of smells, colours and sounds.

As well as the food the area is rich in historic Roman and medieval history.  We are close to many famous towns and villages such as Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, St. Remy, Gordes, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Roussillon, Sault and Simiane itself. We will help you with itineraries and ideas for visits if you so desire.

There is always an abundance of wild flowers to delight the eye and gladden the heart, with colour everywhere throughout the year......from the almond blossom in spring followed by fields of narcissus and orchids, then cherry blossom and the magical arrival of the nightingale. In the summer the trees are heavy with cherries and other fruits and the fields rich with lavender and sunflowers. Then the grape harvest and the reds and golds of autumn.

The lavender blooms at the end of June and is a riot of colour throughout July. The air is heavy with this delicious scent as it is harvested in August. Contrary to popular belief Provence is not overcrowded during the summer but it is popular and so we do recommend that you book early for these weeks.

If you enjoy the sights and sounds of wildlife, frequent visitors to the garden and surrounding fields include Hoopoes, Shrikes, Linnets, Redstarts, Wrynecks, Cuckoos, Nightingales, Nightjars, Orioles, Hen Harriers, Bonelli's Eagles and the beautiful Bee-eaters as well as large flocks of garden and field birds. We often see deer, sanglier (wild-boar), pine-martens, hares plus a wonderful selection of butterflies, dragonflies and other beautiful insects.
